Document Request: Category Summary - All

Recommended Posts

Maybe this is showing that I go about this whole thing with a poor level of planning, but here goes.

If there was a single document that listed every Category along with the requirements to submit a new Waymark into it, and was updated as new Categories joined the list... that would be really useful.

When I'm out driving around, I have no idea what the unique requirements are for a Category when I find an example of one.

Let's say I happen to pass a "Casino".. I don't know anything apart from the fact that Casino is a valid Category. So, I mark the location, take some pictures with and without GPS... then hope for the best.

I know, if I really cared then I would look at the Description before I even went out. But reality is, I pass things all the time either while Geocaching or at work or whatever.... and I see them and say "Oh there's a Waymark!"

With all of the new Variables and questions, which I think are great, but remembering them all or even having looked beforehand is unlikely, it would be tremendously helpful if I could look at a document that gave me a quick breakdown of the listing guidelines.

I could make it, and keep it updated, I think... but if that was to happen, would Groundspeak allow that and also would they post it or make it available?

Is it even something people would want?

I could make an example, but it'll take time.

Thoughts?

This would come in handy, I would keep a copy on my pocketpc and/or laptop. I have many pictures and coordinates where I guessed at what might be the requirements of a category and then find out it had one I had not thought of. Eventually I will get back in the area and fulfil the requirement but until then they are there on my harddrive reminding me of my failure. (along with some I am waiting for the category to be created they will fit in)

and forgetting is the last worry. its finding time to go back through them.

and yes, there needs to be icon systems for posting requirements as well as visiting requirements and 'information' (snakes, 24hr, children, etc...)

Ah, me too!!

That's why I concentrate on a few favorite categories that I'm familiar with.

I have cut and pasted the requirements for categories I think I'm likely to find into MSWord docs, but haven't printed them out. My idea was to keep them in a notebook.

Definitely something along these lines would be invaluable -- something downloadable to a PDA, or whatever.
