Historical Markers Of Days Gone Past.

Recommended Posts

Locally there is a park that was 'de-publiced' along with taking out the facility, the rest area, and signs, the Historical Markers were also removed. Now you need an older map to even know this marker and the park and facility were there. If you have an old Highway Marker Guide you can see where this used to be and what the sign said. There is a reference on the internet. However you have to know what you are looking for to find it.

The Great Rift Natual Monument (not quite a historical marker) has also been removed. You can go there and everthing to see is still there to see but the public facilities and any markers are now gone.

There are others.

I like the idea of capturing history that would otherwise be forgotten. Some it's removed because though it's historic or scenic it's not PC.

I'm not proposing to lead this group but would hope that someone else who would likes the idea.

You can do something similar with the National Register of Historic Places. There are places that qualify that the State Historic Preservation Office has even agreed that they qualify and which are not listed. This catagory would prover harder than the one proposed in this topic.
