Plotting Pocket Queries On A Computer Map

I'm looking for a way to plot a pocket query on my map...such as I query all caches within 50 miles of town x and another for 50 miler of town y I want to draw a 50 mile radius circle around each town so I can visually see the areas I've covered or "over" covered or 'missed'. This doesn't have to be automated with geocaching.com. I use mapsource for my GPS mapping software. Any ideas short of a compass and paper map???

I think you can do some of this with GPS Visualizer (www.gpsvisualizer.com)

 

For example, this page: http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/map?form=googleearth

will let you upload a file (GPX and/or LOC, can't remember now) and plot it on a map.

With Easy GPS (www.easygps.com) or a number of other tools, you can work with waypoints, routes, and tracks to make the file to upload to GPS Visualizer.

 

As far as drawing the circle with a certain radius, I'm not sure...

GPS Visualizer can actually draw circles of an arbitrary radius around a point: http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/calculators#range_rings

 

A hidden (or at least undocumented) feature is that you don't have to type an airport code in the "Airport" box; you could also type a city/state pair, like "Topeka, KS". Then click the "show coordinates" button and save the resulting text file as "radius around my city.txt" or something like that, and upload it to GPS Visualizer's map form along with the .LOC or .GPX file that contains the caches.

 

I'm not sure if that'll accomplish exactly what you need, but it might at least get you on the right track.

Have you set up the PQ for 50 miles from each point? That way you would have all the caches within 50 miles showing for each. From there, it's certainly easy to send them to your Mapsource map via either your GPS as upload, or from whatever system you're using, i.e. GSAK.

Thanks this is pretty much what I was looking for, wish I had this in a non-web app but this certainly does the trick and seems to be an impressive tool you have created. Thanks for the hard work.

In Mapsource if you create a point at the center of your radius and set a proximity it will draw a circle around the point. This is in the edit waypoint section a checkbox about halfway down the page.
