+Klemmer
I kept looking at this picture, and knew SOMETHING was wrong: and then it finally hit me: The stampings are upside down relative to the US Coast & Geodetic Survey disc marking! Not a big deal, just thought it was interesting. I suppose the surveyor who stamped it never know he did it upside down? Quote Link to comment
holograph
Hey, a new category of oddball benchmarks! I found one like that a while back. Given how and where it was mounted, the stamping was easier to make and read that way if standing on the bridge deck. KV3146 Quote Link to comment
+Ernmark
..they were still doing it in 1966 - I went backward thru my logs until I found one (which didn't take long): KW0823 - there's a LOT of them in Central PA ! ...I think they probably pulled one out of the box, lined 'em up along the center elongated cross & started stamping. I've seen triangulation stations w/ stamping just about anywhere around the center triangle....... Example: GT1811 Edited April 26, 2006 by Ernmark Quote Link to comment
Photobuff
Along a similar note, we're so worried about the markings being exactly correct, yet this mark is supposed to be TURKS HILL 2 and it's really 2 TURKS HILL. I can't believe nobody ever pointed it out in the data sheet. Quote Link to comment
Difficult Run
Here's one I found stamped upside down and sideways Notice the letter "K" is not the same size as the numbers. HV2294 Quote Link to comment
