+MNSearchers
Hey I love the site. found the geocaching info on the web about 5 years ago but never persued it again until just recently. What a fun sport for the whole entire family to participate in. Thanks! On to my question. On geocaching.com is there an option somewhere where one can search for like updated caches or caches recently placed? It would be great to be able to put in your zip code (which i know you can do) and then bring up your local caches but then be able to sort them by either when they were placed, or the newest cache placed or the latest person to find a cache. I find it really tedious to have to go through all the cache listings sometimes to just find ones i haven't been too and i live in a relatively small town which is just gettins started with geocaching. I would love to be able to do a search for caches that are new....or recently visited or even to find the oldest to the youngest. Oh and I am a premium member. I know that matters with the search options. Thanks for any info. Laurie Quote Link to comment
+Polar B's
Since you are a premium member this can be done through a pocket query. Quote Link to comment

Well thats not what i wanted to hear. i wanted to hear that soon they will be coming up with a new way to search so you can do this endlessly without having to generate all these reports all the time. LOL! Thanks for the reply! Quote Link to comment

Do you have GSAK? With it you can maintain a Database of caches for any area, update it with Pocket Queries, and have all the info you need at your fingertips, and when your ready to go caching, send it to the GPS. Once you get accustomed to it, the process is easier than using the site for all your searches, and you can get into more detail if you desire. Quote Link to comment

LOL! Thanks for the reply! Pocket queries are useful for more than just downloading GPX files and getting results in email. The preview feature lets you view the results online in the same format as the nearest to search page. Just create a pocket query but don't set it run on any days. You can click the preview link any time you want to get those results. Quote Link to comment
+Adrenalynn
You can also doing it to an extent with geocaching.com maps. Find a cache in the general area you want to check out. Click on "geocaching.com maps" at the bottom. It will open a map window with the caches close to it shown. Then deselect everything but "new in the last 7 days". Then zoom in or out until the area you want to check is covered. Then you can click on the "identify" radio button, then click on a cache icon, and it will show you the info for them all (up to 25). Another thing to do is add the "notification email" with the area that you want covered in your profile. Then you'll get near-realtime emails when a new cache is posted. That's how hardcore ftf contenders do it. Quote Link to comment
+MNSearchers
Yeah I had GSAK and so does my husband who uses it religiously on his computer. I will have to download it again and just get used to it. I was lost with all the pocket queries and such so I need to be more patient. LOL!! Thanks for all the replies...i appreciate it. I still wish they would just make the website clickable headings that ascend/descend and oldest date/newest date, and things like that. Would be so much easier. LOL!! Quote Link to comment
+Isonzo Karst
If you look at your state listings from your account page, clicking on the link Newest in South Dakota - that is how they're listed. By date, with the newest - usually events which haven't happened yet - on top and then the caches in the order published. Oddly, if you start on the home page and search S.Dakota you can't get that ordered list. Okay, I fooled with it a bit. You want this string http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.aspx?state_id=42 this will bring you to a list of SD caches in ordered published newest on top south dakota state id = 42 Edited April 25, 2006 by Isonzo Karst Quote Link to comment

You can set up a PQ to capture EXACTLY what you want, but you don't need to have the file e-mailed to you or use GSAK or Watcher or whatever. The PREVIEW link will give you the results RIGHT THERE, just like a search. Quote Link to comment
