What exatily do you do at A CITO event I know you pick up garbage but is that all or do you do more and if youonly pick up garbage why do people attend them

they'll usually be a stop at a pub involved... or bbq etc.

good company, a warm tingly feeling as you've done good.... and very likely a cache or two to find after,

 

but we all do it out of the goodness of our hearts don't we?

It's a great way to meet other geocachers, do the area some good and enjoy a BBQ. Rub shoulders with other strange folks and possibly even trade some Travel Bugs or geocoins.

It's fun to see a whole boatload of trash bags at the end of the day instead of the one measly one I always bring out when I am alone.

Yep, and in addition to all that, it makes the lad managers life easier thanks to geocachers, who in turn will be able to (hopefully) place caches with permission on their properties.

 

But most important of all - getting trash out of the woods and where it belongs.

The ones I've been to, we only picked up garbage. We do it to give back to the parks and hopefully foster good relationships with various land managers. The comraderie is also a big attraction.

I live, and cache, in the Adirondack Park in upstate NY, and I plan and attend CITO events as a way to give back to the preserve...AS WELL AS...make it plain TPTB in the park that geocaching is an outdoor activity that has a net positive effect on the environment.
