+Ellteejak
I have been reading in the media about the death of the PDA. People will be using: 1) Cell phones (like blackberry) 2) Media players (like ipod) 3) Small full computers So this is good for cachers!! We can start to take over the PDA market with our need for PDAs while paperless caching. I here that the cheapest PDA you can run CACHEMATE on is maybe $30 including shipping. That is some very cheap paperless caching. Quote Link to comment
+HaLiJuSaPa
To be honest, IMHO a PDA is not good for caching unless you're just doing urban micros and drive-up virtuals. While I do think if you already have a PDA it is more economical to turn it into a GPS rather than buy a separate handheld unit and the paperless caching aspect is nice, most handhelds were purposely designed for hiking and other rugged outdoor activities and are made to "take a beating", whereas most PDAs are not and can easily break permanently if dropped, or if hit against something by accident, or gets wet, etc. Of course, if you can get a PDA for just $30 and a GPS attachment for maybe $50 (many of which are the ultra-sensitive SiRF chip), not a bad deal nonetheless. Just my thoughts.... Edited April 15, 2006 by hairymon Quote Link to comment
Mustcache
To be honest, IMHO a PDA is not good for caching unless you're just doing urban micros and drive-up virtuals. Just my thoughts.... I respectfully disagree. I don't go caching without my pda. It is securely placed in my pack and is absolutely great on the trails. I'll take a seat on a log or rock and read about the cache details or add log notes so at the end of the day, I can easily sort out the details of the caching day. I have a Palm M130 which is rugged enough to survive most of what can happen on a trail. Quote Link to comment
