Discussion: Reviewing Your Own Waymarks?

I've noticed in several categories I'm in that some people have a reluctance to approve their own waymarks. (most of the waymarks I've reviewed in other categories have been owned by officers)

 

Personally I don't have a problem with an officer listing their own waymarks, its good practice. What do other people think?

If it meets the criteria, I dont see why they cant approve their own. If the ones approved dont meet the criteria, and it is an apparent favortism, then I suspect the others will speak out about it.

That's kind of what I was thinking. If they review their own, and they approve ones that shouldn't be, then that is good grounds for kicking them out of the group (if they did it knowingly).

Accepting waymark submittals to your own category is fine, as long as the same standards are applied regardless of who submits.

Well, as an Officer in a Category that I am very active in, I didn't want to start Approving my own Waymarks.

 

I think that they should be double checked by another Officer just to make sure everything is okay... although I can see how if it was a blatant problem that the offending Officer should be booted.

 

But that type of person would have done harm to a Category, and it may be hard to recover the good name again.

 

From what I can tell, and I haven't looked... it would reflect on the Category Manager no matter who did the actual Approving and Listing.

 

I also don't want someone coming back on me complaining that I gave myself preferrencial treatment.
