Did I go to the wrong page? HELP EDITED: OK... Don't believe only what you read on the Waymark Historic page! Don't jump to conclusions so soon! +SeabeckTribe
While down at the Longview Cache Machine this last weekend. I took advantage of looking for a few Heritage Markers. 1. Cowlitz Mission - Found - Had been marked MISSING (FTF Og's Outfit) 2. Cowlitz Landing - Never did find it, but Og's Outfit did. Had been marked MISSING 3. Monticello Convention - Found - Had been marked MISSING 4. Claquato - Found (FTF Og's Outfit) 5. Willie Keil's Grave - Found 6. Bruceville-Bruceport - Found 7. Roosevelt Elk - Drove 101 clear to junction 4 and back to Raymond and never saw it on 101. Maybe on one of the off roads. 8. Hood Canal - Found Submitted my finds and waiting for approval. FYI - The Suquamish Nation #12 in pamphlet (Totem Pole in book) use to be on the left side of Hwy 305, heading north just before crossing Agate Pass Bridge, is missing. At the Tribal Center I was told that both the totem and sign rotted away and was never been replaced. I sure didn't see it. All there is now is a parking lot. Quote Link to comment

+Ambrosia
Slow down, excited ones! I received over 20 submissions on Monday, because quite a few of you were out frantically Waymarking last weekend! Some of them are duplicates, because it seems that a lot of you were going to the same places. If your submission is not approved because someone else got to it first, you can log the waymark instead. I will be finishing this up today. Quote Link to comment
+Ambrosia
Whew, my queue is finally empty! *wipes sweat from brow* I will post the results later. .....um, Rec? Why dontcha submitt your waymarks before someone beats you to it? I had to deny something like 8 today because they were duplicates. Quote Link to comment

+Og's outfit
I received the heritage marker pamphlet in the mail today. The pamphlet actually lists 79 markers, instead of the 67 that are listed on the website. But Paula went through and marked my copy to update which markers are really there. She lists 18 as missing, and 3 with question marks. So that leaves 58-61 as possible for this challenge. The map below shows you where the markers are located in Washington. I wanted to cut the map in half and enlarge both portions so that you could see the numbers on the map, but I don't have those sorts of photoshoping skills. But what you can see of the map gives you an idea of where the are located. And obviously the markers are going to be displayed on the highway. The one marker that didn't make it into my picture is # 10, Destruction Island, which is near Queets....but that one has been listed as missing by Paula. If anyone finds a marker that is listed missing or questioned, please note that! Excuse me if I made any mistakes with these locations, I was trying to go by the map which isn't always easy for me. #1 Point Roberts Boundery MISSING #2 Old Telegraph Rd. +SeabeckTribe
Didn't have but a few minutes at a borrowed computer this holiday weekend and couldn't finish cross referencing the Waymarking - Washington Historic Markers. But saw several that had been found but not been updated on this list. I was going to take a out-of-the-way side trip home from Chelan County to see if I could find a few FTF. But without an updated list it wasn't worth the cost of the extra gas for 2TF and not getting another point for the contest. Happy Caching Quote Link to comment

+SeabeckTribe
Hey all.... Are we still doing this challenge? Reviewing the Waymarking - Washington Historic Marker sight, I see that there are still quite a few left. I have a couple on my list to do in the area I'll be in this coming couple weeks. By-the-way... How many missing reports on the MISSING markers do we have to have before it is truely claimed as MISSING? This challenge will never end if those are not marked off the list! Happy Caching Lummieh Quote Link to comment
+Ambrosia
I'm still here! Of course, I've slacked a bit. I have a few markers to add: #47 - Prying Pandora #63 - not sure about this one, xy,xx,xy,xy,xy,xy reported it missing? # 64 - xy,xx,xy,xy,xy,xy That leaves 28 markers I think (I roughly counted), if you don't include the ones that the state reported missing that people can try for. Try for them, people! There have been a lot of missing ones found, and if you find one that's just one more time that your name is entered into the challenge. I'm not sure what to do about the ones reported missing like #63 recently. I would like at least 2 people to report them missing to be safe, but I'll see what happens when all the markers are found. I'll cross that bridge when we come to it. I would just like this to be completed! Winter's coming, and that may be a good thing. As long as people don't mind the driving, you could get these markers even if caching is not do-able. Let's keep going!!! Quote Link to comment
+SeabeckTribe
I think at lest 2, if not 3, reports of missing markers before they are excluded. I, myself, thought one was missing and then it was found. #63 Ginko Petrified Forest. If the plaque states the information that is needed and has submitted the 2 pictures, I think it would count as a find. My two MISSING submissions... #12 The Suquamish Nation. I stopped in at the tribal center and was told that this one is not there anymore. Both the sign and totem rotted. The place where they stood is now a parking lot. #74 Roosevelt Elk. Unless this one was moved to a different place. I could not find it on Hwy 101 in that area. #1 Point Roberts Boundery MISSING #2 Old Telegraph Rd. (N. of Bellingham) MISSING #3 Mt. +jcar
#73 Point Elliot Treaty (Between Vantage and Ellengsburg, highway 10) I've done a little research on this one. I'm almost 100% sure it is not between Vantage and Ellensburg. I pretty sure it is up on Whidbey Island. The Point Elliot Treaty was signed in what is present day Mulkiteo. Quote Link to comment

You are completely right. It is on the southern tip of Whidbey Island. I wrote that whole list out by hand, and it took a lot of time. I realized that I probably made some mistakes at the time. I apologize, and also in advance if there are other mistakes. Thanks for the correction! Quote Link to comment

+SeabeckTribe
While over in the Eastern part of the state I found... #45 - David Thompson #69 - Kettle Falls #66 - Grand Coulee (the original marker was torn down in the 80's when they constructed the Visitor Center) There are two #43 on the phamplet. I think the second one is Lincoln Rock. It is pictured in the booklet as being on PSH2 eight miles above E. Wenatcheeon the east side of the river. I spoke to a Ranger in the Lincoln Rock State Park. He said he didn't know of any Historical Marker on Hwy 2 and there was nothing in the park (which was closed for improvements). I then spoke to a George Stewart from DOT. He also told me that he doesn't recall any marker and he has been with the departments since the mid 80's and has been in the area since 1966. Unless this marker has been relocated, it is not on Hwy 2 nor 97A Quote Link to comment

+Ambrosia
TM had suggested that I give a time period, maybe a month or two, for people to wrap up and then end the contest even if it hasn't been completed. It's been going on long enough, perhaps that would cause a little flurry of activity, because this is taking a long time to complete. It's been fun to watch, though! Thanks to everyone who has participated. I'm thinking.....it's May 19 right now, and I'm sure that people will be out and about doing all the challenge caches.......how's about July 1st? Or July 10, to give people time for the holiday? Quote Link to comment
+SeabeckTribe
This must be still going as there has been no post that there was a drawing for the coin. I know it has been 7 month, but finally got my info and pictures together at one time! So anyway.... I was in the Birch Bay area last August while hubby was crabbing. Thought I would spend the day looking for Historical Markers. I started out by making the trip into Canada, out of Canada, back into Canada and back to the USA ground. My mission was to locate the Pt. Roberts Historical Marker. I had my birth certificate, drivers license, car insurance out and ready as I made my way across the borders. I also had my Historical Marker Booklet with me to show what I was attempting to do. Pt Roberts had been reported missing in the Challenge. So I pulled up to the USA Pt Roberts border and laid out all my paperwork and then asked the kind border crossing officer if he had ever seen a marker like the picture in the book. He looked at the booklet and then stood back and I was sure he was going to say he had never seen it. He looked at me then pointed his finger across my hood and said, "You mean that?" Well that tells you how observant I am. I asked if I could park in their parking lot. No problem. Go my GPS out and started to take readings and pictures. Then this kind officer came over and asked if I would like my picture taken with the marker. What a great start for the day. I then moved on to Bellingham looking for the Old Telegraph Road. This area has been developed into a major shopping area and appartments. Found the road and stopped to talk to some residents, but no one recalled a marker. Since that was a bust I moved on to look for the Bellingham Bay marker. I followed Donovan St from the water to the free way. When I came to a dead end I stopped to talk to a nice couple that lived there. They didn't remember a marker, but they showed me what was left of the gigantic boulder that had once stood in the middle of the North and South I5 lanes. We came to the conclussion that when they made and relocated I5 to 4 lanes that it was removed. All that was left was a pile of bigger than big pile of rocks. Hummmmm.... This could make a great cache site! As long as the neighbors didn't object. Ok... There was plenty of light left for the day. So I decided to hit WA 524 and look for the Mt. Baker Marker. The booklet said it was missing, but what the heck. Nothing better to do! I was really enjoying myself with the beautiful country in this area. The booklet said it was between Maple Falls and Glacier, but it also said it had been temporarily removed. As I cruised along I pasted the marker. I had to do put the ponies in a sliding skid to stop to turn around. There it was standing tall along side the road over looking the river. So 2 out of 4 isn't to bad. Let say I was glad to have saved up some extra money for gas for these adventures. Pt. Roberts - Found Mt. Baker - Found Old Telegraph Road - Missing Bellingham Bay - Missing Quote Link to comment
