Two for nine today (Not Good!). Not to mention getting questioned by the Summit police. An erratic van driver, who didn't want to share the road with us, reported us to the police for walking on a narrow road! (Of course, when the police got there, we were walking down from the bridge.) It seems that they stop and question anyone carrying a camera in town. Has it really come to this??? But, anyway:

Ten for twenty today. Following holograph across Stillwater and Tranquility (old Mennonite towns). Thanks for the updated coordinates! Missed on that he found. Lady screamed from a few hundred feet away "Get off my property now!" Umm... Bridges on county roads over streams are owned by the county government. But after yesterday's run in with the Summit police for the terrorist crime of carrying a camera, we weren't taking any more chances! The Green police are a lot more rural, shall we say?

What we did find today:

Had a very fun & productive day over in Woody's area (East Moreno Valley & North from there toward Redlands). Unfortunately, our schedules didn't work out for a team effort. Anyway, Woody had already logged some of them (but not all!). I know there are 3 or 4 more marks I should be able to find out there as well. A couple highlights noted below. Got to try out my new metal detector, too.

Most logs this past week were from the 1964 post-earthquake surveys, or were 'destroyed' notations. I did get to walk the entire length of the 2.5 mile long Anton Anderson Memorial Rail/Car tunnel from Portage to Whittier AK, searching in vain for three marks destroyed in the 1998-2000 modification of the tunnel for car traffic use.

Here's the only contest-qualified find from my June 11 journey along Turnagain Arm, south of Anchorage:

The lupine were flowering in the verge between the highway and the rock bluff at this location - what a lovely time of year here!

Ah but working too hard can give you

A heart attack, ack, ack, ack, ack, ack

You ought-a know by now

Who needs a house out in Hackensack?

Is that all you get for your money?

6/18/2006 2oldfarts went to the Grand Canyon. Harry Dolphin and Andy Bear went to Hackensack! (Okay, we were four for twelve in Hackensack, Little Ferry, South Hackensack and Rochelle Park.) Temp hit 97º.

It's getting way too hot to be out there chasing those old benchmarks. Having to jump those right-of-way fences sure makes one appreciate those drive-by stations that are right next to the road! It only got up to 105° yesterday. Man, it must be great to have a cool ocean breeze blowing while you're out benchmarking.

Only 2 FTR out of 14 finds.

AE4738/UNK/N/?

EDIT:

AE4738/1847/N/?

ACOORDING TO THE PLAQUE POSTED IN THE LOG OF MY RECOVERY THE POINT WAS FIXED ON AUG,3 1847 BY ORSON PRATT ASSITED BY G. SHERWOOD WHEN BEGGINING THE ORIGINAL SURVEY OF SALT LAKE CITY.

I NEED TO CHECK TO SEE IF IT IS THE OLDEST IN THE COUNTY UPON FURTHER RESEARCH OF THE MARK.

I went through a bunch of data sheets for that county and find that the dates are all UNKNOWN on the older marks.

If this was the first one set for the laying out of the City it should be the Oldest so the ? would be yes.

The only evidence is the Plaque set right in front of it.

I would have to do a lot of digging on history to find out about all the UNKNOWNS.

Geo,

You won't find what you are looking for, because this is a very authentic and accurate replica of the original Initial Point stone. In the 1970's or 80's the Mormon Church had the original stone copied and replaced. The original stone is a block or two away in a Mormon church museum.

Nice find on the Lewis and Clark mon in Montana, I never knew that one existed or I would have been to it by now. Here is one you would have enjoyed going to.

CallawayMT,

Thank you I had been keeping quiet about it for a year.

But if you do a search on the search page with Lewis and Clark it is the only one that comes up.

Sacagawea was on the list to log but we just did not have the time or $$ to get there so it is on another list now.

Klemmer and TeddyBearMama,

Thankyou for the marco on the GSAK.

I have not figured that all out yet,I am still learnig it.

I finally got the full vesion just before we left and did not and still do not know how to use it that well.

It helped with a Quick search on the Salt Lake Meridian Stone as being the oldest in the County.

So again thanks And to you to John...

I enjoy the great help I find here.

Sorry for the long post in the logging thread.
