+adambro
Inspired by the geotoad program feature to allow you to view cache details on your iPod, I've being having a little play around with my iPod nano. It can store up to 1000 text 'notes' each of a maximum file size of 4KB. This seems plenty to have details of caches as individal text files. This is how it would look: Does anyone know of any programs that take a GPX file and convert it into a set of text files for each cache like this? I want to avoid reinventing the wheel if it has been done before. Quote Link to comment
The Royles
GSAK has a TXT export. If it isnt suitable, use the TextOut macro function. Quote Link to comment
+adambro
Ahh yes, thanks, text output in GSAK doesn't do what i'm after. I shall have a look at writing a macro to do the work. Quote Link to comment
+Moote
A PDA can do this, also have OS Mapping, act as a GPS if required and play low-grade audio files (like all compressed music data is) all for the price of an iPod Quote Link to comment
+adambro
Yes but I have an iPod and don't have a PDA. Quote Link to comment
+Moote
But why pay all that money for what is a monofunctional device, when a PDA can be had for the same money. I know the PDA can act as a mp3, Flac, WMA player, oh I've even watched a DivX DVD on mine and all for just a tad over £100 Quote Link to comment
+ClydeE
GPSBabel can convert GPX files to Ipod format (you can run this as a "Custom export" under GSAK). There is also a program around that converts the GSAK generated HTML to Ipod format. For more information see this post Quote Link to comment

Anywyas, I'd like to see a PDA the size of an ipod nano Quote Link to comment
+adambro
Thanks for the info Clyde, I've used the VCF export in GPSBabel and I am impressed by the results. So I've now got a few hundred cache pages on my iPod, very neat. Moote seems to be missing the point, I've got an iPod nano, I don't have a PDA. Quote Link to comment
+Simply Paul
I've been known to take a digital photo of a cache page on my PC screen, which I can then zoom into while in-the-field -where I'd have my camera with me anyway. Same with Streetmap maps... No file converting, no mucking about with leads, no extra equipment needed... Quote Link to comment
+adambro
I did that last year when I was going to do a multi in a Durham park (GCPFJG) and needed some photos with me but didn't have any ink for my printer. I needed to get on the next bus and was desperately trying to think of a way of getting the images when I thought of using my digital camera, worked fine. Quote Link to comment
