+freespirit1402
Many topics are now popping up with the advent of so many coins being released about geocoins but it seems the poor litle TB hasnt received a mention in the recent month. SO this is a bit of a multi questioned post, firstly being, with all these posh shiny coins floating about at the moment do you still get excited at opening a cache and seeing that little dog tag amongst the swag - i do :)If I am looking at cache listings I often try and include a cache housing a TB where i can during a days caching And regards the TBs you own what made you pick them? I have 5 - Herbie is a herbie keyring i chose as i loved the films as a kid and love classic cars. I also have two toy Mini's : Monte and Carlo out racing each other at the moment (Monte is kicking Carlo's a** LOLOL) as I own a mini cooper and am an absolute mini nut. McGonk is a scottish toy i chose as my family is scottish and i wanted to enjoy seeing him make it there and lastly More Cheese Grommit is a Wallace and Grommit keyring i had at home. I didnt really pick it for a specific reason other than giving a tb a bit of a daft mission - to seek out cheese. I would like to send out two more - a martial arts related one as i do kickboxing and karate and a motorbike as Im a biker currently frustrated without bike ( ) and want someone to enjoy what im missing and hope to get the tags and send them out soon. So what tb's do you have and why did you pick them? *Edited for typos* Edited March 27, 2006 by freespirit1402 Quote Link to comment
Lavareef
I'm being severely tempted to pick up a Peter Kay or Tony Christie likeness to turn into TBs and see if they can find their way to Amarillo, Texas... Edited March 28, 2006 by Lavareef Quote Link to comment
+Jonovich
On the subject of TB's and Peter Kay, I've been looking for a MR.T wobble head as seen on the dash of Max and Paddy's BOL 10X campervan, to make into a TB. Anyone know a place that sells these? As for TB's versus Coins... If the coin is the real deal and not a cloned jobbie then I love finding them in caches. If it's a TB then it depends very much on what it is attached to and what mission (if any) the TB has. Cheers J Quote Link to comment
+Boardslider
Being a latecomer to the game, I made my first TB last year out of a maglight and left it in a cache in Guernsey with the intent that it would do some EU travels and get back to Devon. After nearly six months without the cache bing found again, its now currently 'oop north' somewhere, never having seen Europe! Since then: Island Hopper, a frog that wants to stay near water (Currently waiting to start moving from Jersey), 2 minis that are racing the motorway mahem series, and a bear that wants to be photgraphed around the world (that hasn't yet moved). The problem I see with coins is that they seem inherently collectable, and thus likely to disappear from circulation - I have one, which was part of the giveaway (that's still waiting to move from its first cache too); but bugs have more character, lend themselves to missions and mostly seem to have a longer life in the wild. +windywalkers
im a travel bug person myself coins are okay but i agree with a comment made about them being more collectable thus people are more inclined to keep for there personel pleasure and just a quick note as well i have used clones of the bedlingtonduo for one of my travel bugs(mark and anette) this is somthing i could never do with coins.someday i will have clones of all the world leaders and take control of the planet oops sorry that was my doctor evil side Quote Link to comment
+Chaotica_UK
Im a bit of a Star Trek nut, so I took my name from the daft Voyager series. They did a spoof black and white episode of Flash Gordon, and instead of Ming they had Doctor Chaotica and I just liked the name so I created Captain Chaotica and based my TB on that with a couple of themed caches as well. Capt Chaotica TB has done one race and is currently resting - awaiting his secret mission in the summer. Edited March 28, 2006 by Chaotica_UK Quote Link to comment
+Simply Paul
In my best Harry Hill voice: "Which is best, Travel Bugs or Geocoins? There's only one way to find out: Fiiiightttt!!" P.S. For the MrT wobblehead, I'd visit eBay Quote Link to comment
+kewfriend
I'd be interested to know how one finds out which TBs have 'Mission Accomplished' Quote Link to comment
+freespirit1402
it would be nice to be able to have a pull down option found it, achieved its mission Quote Link to comment
+Geo-Kate
I still enjoy finding a TB in a cache. I think I have only encountered 1 coin so far, and to be honest, this subject has passed me by. I hear about all the coins that go missing, owners drilling holes or otherwise defacing the coins, and the mad collectors who will stop at nothing to get another icon on their profile! (sorry to any mad collectors reading this ) It seems to take out the enjoyment for me. I still remember finding my first TB. I often check up on it to see where it is, and can name the cache we found it in too. Some are more memorable than others, and I am more likely to grab a TB if it is interesting or has an interesting mission. I think I prefer on-going missions to definate 'go to' missions, but I will always try to help! Quote Link to comment
+The Golem
I've got to confess that I'm fed up of TBs - I remember the first one I found and the excitement I felt, but now they're all very much of a muchness - a small teddy or a plastic Mctoy just doesn't float my boat - I've reached the stage where I'm just going to leave them in caches rather than move them along, especially when the servers chugging like it did this weekend... Geocoins are a different matter (for now) but I am wondering how many new ones we can have before saturation point is reached. Quote Link to comment

So what tb's do you have and why did you pick them? *Edited for typos* I enjoy finding and moving on both coins and travel bugs. I tend to use them to plan out my caching trips. Bugs have taken me to a micro brewery and to Eastor Castle to fulfil their quest. The Eastor Castle run alothough only 60ish miles ATCF was a road trip of 100 miles but Eastnor and Malvern made a very enjoyable Christmas eve caching experience. I currently have two bugs out and one coin. The bugs are just small tape measures (which my poor eyesight couldn't cope with) they are identical and were released 3mi apart on the same day. The object was to compare their rate of travel. One bug has moved quickly going immediately to New Zealand the other hardly moved far. Both bugs have not moved for a month or so. The coin has been picked up from the first cache but is yet to be moved on. I have two more coins to release and two more on order. I just hope my decision not to deface or devalue the coins dosent make them short lived. I also use the movements of the trackables both my own and those I move on to access caches I may consider visiting. Trackables are great they provide the impetus to set out on a caching tripI just deplore the people who steal them or fail to log them correctly. Regards Colin Quote Link to comment
Andys101 & Redfrock
I enjoy finding and releasing both. The only thing is my coins aren't attracting the attention I had hoped and are just sitting in caches not being moved on. One person did the cache one of my coins was in and didn't take it which I thought was odd, so I emailed them asking if it was in the cache when they found it as I wanted to know it was safe, but they have never replied. So far cache not been found since so still don't know if its there or not Quote Link to comment
+Kryten
I simultaneously released two identical VW Beetle toy cars to see how their travels would differ. Nine months later one is in Florida and the other stuck near Glasgow where it hasn't moved for 6 months. I also had a theory that cute cuddly items received preferential treatment so I launched a cuddly little bunny. That bug went to Germany where it is moved almost every week. Quote Link to comment
+Pharisee
............ and the other stuck near Glasgow where it hasn't moved for 6 months. They've probably nicked its wheels.......... Quote Link to comment

Archer4 has this red nose TB that I helped get very close to its goal.
