i learned abit from just this post..but, am i right to say that while in UTM, i can or have to skip the zero in the E/W cords? my Magellan X 210 only has the two digit zone# at the beginning and six digits while the N/S cords have seven digits. and, will that zero ever change to another # ? im thinking not. Backpacker Mag uses UTM in there hikes in the back of the mag, and im used to Long/Lat for caching. But i want to use the info to do some hikes. just let me know if im going to get lost or if im heading in the right direction with my figuring of the UTM. THANKS team S

yes. infact some surveying equipment also only have a 6 digit northing and the seventh digit has to be added by the postprocessing software,(user has to have knowledge of thezone setup though).
