Cache-cadians Hide A Month Club

Yesterday after some time on the beach I decided I hadnt been up on Burch Mountain yet this year so with a full tank and new tires I headed up to check out the new PUD powerline. While I was in the area I decided that the area needed some more caches so there are a couple of new ones to make the trip up there enjoyable. The ruts are mostly all gone and the road was pretty good all the way to the gate.

I started geocaching in June of 2005 and joined this hide a month club but havent hid one in a while. But for the 16 months I have enjoyed  caching I have 17 hides so I hope that counts to the group.

Hmm...let's see if I have this right.... You plant 3 caches in my backyard, I have a new SUV I'm not allowed to take into the hills, the 4x4 truck is parked at SeaTac and to really make sure I can't get those FTF's, I have to work 2 - 12 hour shifts this weekend. Jon, you used to be my friend... :) (payback's a you know what buddy...)

It is about time, Nav!!!! When was your last hide afterall????? Playing possum????

One of my two hides was denied and my other is still a maybe. Keep your fingers crossed. If not, I will move them by month end to a different location.

It sure would be nice to get a few in before snow falls.....

THINGS ARE WAY TO QUIET here in Cache Cadian land..

What is every body doing? Thinking up another run on winter time puzzle caches. I have a couple in mind.

You're right. Things have quieted down here in Cachecadian Land. I never thought I'd see the day I would lose enthusiasm for the game, but I have. But then my life has been pretty crazy these past few months with business travel. I'll do my best to get my one a month average commitment in this year. So I think I have hidden 10 this year, so 2 more to go by the end of December. I think I can do that. Now to find locations where I'm not over saturating the area.

In town yesterday and yes, Dehydrated was messed up again. We pulled it and archived it, we will probably re-establish it up here where we can keep an eye on it. Meanwhile we put out a new hide near the Dehydrated site, hopefully this won't get us in trouble with the approvers and the "proximity rule". It is in the Q now. We didn't have time to check Anchors Aweigh, got home at 2315 as it was [:anibad:]

There shouldn't be any trouble with the approvers and the "proximity rule" unless the cache is within 0.1 miles of another cache, or even if its over 0.1 mile, say 0.2 mile, if its near a fairly new hide, it could get nixed, until such time, say 3 or 4 months have passed, and the nearby cache is no longer "new", then it may suddenly get approved. This is what I have learned from experience. :o

Anyway, I made the area less saturated today by archiving another one of my caches. Appleatchee Multi is now gone. Now what to do with that ammo can?

Duh :anibad: Hide it..... What is wrong with you? We need all of the hides possible. Gotta take the chance on cache saturation. Maybe we can get a eye for an eye or a tooth for a tooth justice from the powers to be.

What? Hide a cache? Too many complaints about my caches. My puzzle caches are too much mind work, or my mountain ones take too much gas or effort. So I'm at a loss on where to hide it. I'm not in to city drive bys (unless they're puzzles). Besides, I've hidden my fair share. Anyone want an ammo can?

And I'm not fixing your . Where's Allanon?

We did talk about a new way to place caches this weekend at the event at Marymoor park. Kinda of an offset cache. You load a micro as a sabot-type shotgun slug, you get the coords for where you are standing and the heading for where you are aiming then fire it into a field. As a hint you'd tell them what gauge of shotgun you used and what type of load you used so they can figure out how far it could have traveled.

Don't you also need to know the incline angle of the shotgun?

Is this club still active?

We are still trying to hide monthly although we may have missed one or two but made it up if you average it out....

I would like some new local ones to look for though! I am here on the west side for the holidays and I just don't know which cache to go to first! There are so so so many over here! green with envy!

Maybe our Stats Pro should make a talley and see how we have done so far this year. Or not as it may shame some who said they would and did not. ;)

Ok, since you asked. :)

I looked back on the previous thread started by Patudles and here are the ones who committed to hiding one cache per month (or averaging 1 a month for the year) for year 2006:

The Navigatorz, g-people, xy,xx,xy,xy,xy,xy, Blue J Wenatchee, Mr. Gadget #2, and Patudles. Ambrosia said she will commit to "trying" and "maybe" average one per month.

How did everyone who committed, (or commit to try) do?

Mr. Gadget 26 Hides

g-people 24 Hides

The Navigatorz 16 Hides

Patudles 15 Hides

Blue J Wenatchee 15 Hides

xy,xx,xy,xy,xy,xy 4 Hides

Ambrosia 2 Hides

Overall the Cache-cadians contributed over 120 hides this year. Others who did not commit to the Once a Month club, but provide some fun quality caches:

ccmin(5), Barnabirdys (5), D-born 2B in D-wild (5), Jackknap (4), Robinego (4), Max-X (3), Team Mensch (3)

Thanks everyone for the Hides. We love them and thank you for the fun. And a special thanks to Mr. Gadget and g-people for going above and beyond.

Shall we make re-commitments for 2007? Maybe recruit some others to join the club?

So, in 2005 I did 12, but in 2006 I did 2?

Wow. That tells me how my year has gone. :D

Not sure what that means. Looks like you found 233 in 2005 and 313 in 2006. Looks like you had a good year.

It's not so hard when people take you to caches, and your husband starts caching in earnest on trips with you because he feels sorry for you. :D

I just can't really maintain the ones that I have, so setting out more is silly.

Both me finding more and me hiding less are a big indicator of how my year has gone, if you know what you're looking for.

Glad to see that you have submitted your first hide. You know you have to hide the first one before you cacn hide your second. I will be concertrating on some of my hides in the ML area my self. -G-

Yeah I cant belive how long it took me to get it out, there, I had the idea a while back, just to me a while to get it all together and placed. I just hope the coords are all as dialed in as I think they are! Glad to hear you are going to deposit some over here cause I am about to run out of close "get my cache fix" cache's

Got some supplies today, for a couple more, think I will continue the Desert Casino and make it into a series, each one a different poker hand.

:anicute: Oh great, now you are going to make me go and walk the entire course again for how many times now.;) But then if there are more chances for more FTF's then I am all for it. :)

haha  hopefully with the tips you have given me you will just be able to go after the FTF without my help  Not that I would give you much help anyway!

Thinking about that maybe I should have offerd a little more help yesterday but... I wouldnt want it so I didnt offer :anicute:

Well so far it looks like Mr. Gadget is the only one who has committed to hiding at least one cache a month in 2007. A club of one, is no fun, so I'll join. Anyone else? Come on...it will be fun.

This club only makes sense to me if there are more participants. Remember a couple of years ago how fun it was to see new caches pop up all the time. It's not that way anymore. You can only find caches if others hide them (thats how the game works). But if only a minority of geocachers are hiding them on a regular basis, and the non-participants are enjoying the fruits, then it seems unfair. At this time I am rescinding my commitment to hide one a month. I also motion that this club be disbanded. Do I hear a second?

Meh, I'm not even enjoying the fruits. It's been 3 months since I've done a local cache.

If you're not finding local caches, then I wasn't referring to you.

:D Geez, I hope I'm not reading this right, but IMO, that comes across kind of snotty. Kind of like a pouty child gathering up his crayons and not wanting to play anymore. Is this how you wanted it to come across? I don't know if your post to pointed to certain individuals or is a shotgun blast to get responses, but as it is, those responses may be more negative than you were intending.

Now, as a local cacher who has just done a fair amount of caching a few days ago, many of them yours, and having only placed 3 caches in the last 7 months, I can't help but feel slammed by your post. :D Was this your intention?

I think the cache a month is a fun thing for those who want to participate. I participated in it the first year. I did not commit to it last year although my hides were kept counted anyway. I personally do not have the time or the energy to be on a schedule to hide a cache on a time schedule. I will hide my caches when I have time and when I find a place I feel I would like to put one. No schedule or no commitments. If it is 1 a year or 24 a year. I hope this isn't going to get to be a if you don't hide a cache I won't either scenerio.

When I started caching there were only a handful of caches in the valley. My friends and I started putting out some and new people joined in including Navigatorz. Now our valley is full of caches. But my reason for putting out a cache is not to supply anyone with a cache to find. It is because I happen to like the spot and want to share it for some odd reason, or just to do something fun.

The reason for hiding your caches should be because you want to. You want to bring others to this special spot or you enjoy the fun of creating masterful puzzles, and/or it brings you pleasure. If you enjoy watching people come to your spots or doing your puzzles then keep it up. If you are only putting our caches so others will recipocate then that is the wrong reason and will not bring you any pleasure so it might be a good idea not to do it anymore. Follow your caching heart and have fun. Don't feel like you have to put out caches just for us and no one else it doing it. Put it out when you feel like it and have fun instead.
