+Woodbutcher68
My kitchen scale shows my MeriPlat at 8oz. Not sure how accurate it is though or if Platinum is heavier than Gold. Edited March 14, 2006 by Woodbutcher68 Quote Link to comment
gpsblake
The lightest unit on the market is the Geko and uses AAA batteries. But you can't upload/download data with the Geko series. That's too bad. From manufacter websites and other 3rd party sites Garmin Geko is 3.4 ounces with batteries. By far the lightest unit. Yellow Etrex is 5.3 ounces with batteries Lowrance Ifinder GO2 is 5.36 ounces with batteries. Explorist series is 5.4 ounces with batteries except the XL unit Legend-C is 5.4 ounces with batteries. Garmin 60 series is 7.5 ounces with batteries. Garmin 76 series around 7.6 ounces with batteries. Meridian series weighs in at over 8 ounces with batteries. Quote Link to comment

It fits easily in my jacket pocket or hangs well from a lanyard. The screen is large and easy to read. The rechargable battery will last 12 hours and recharges from the accessory plug in the car. It can load 3,000 waypoints (everything within about 6 hours drive.) I can use an external antenna strapped to the shoulder strap of my day pack. The autorouting (with voice prompts) is useful to get to the parking. As an added bonus the unit is an XM satellite radio receiver and will display XM live weather (thunderstorms etc.) Edited March 14, 2006 by Maxima Quote Link to comment
