I saw an advertisement on geocaching.com with this link http://www.luluetcastagnette.com/MEC_geocaching/ for a contest. The web page is only in French. I checked the MEC page, but couldn't see a link.

If you read the rules you have to have a good knowledge of French to participate so I guess there won't be an English page

Have a working knowledge of bikes, canoes, kayaks, hiking

No sinkers allowed

Être impliqué ou s'intéresser aux enjeux sociaux et environnementaux

Be involved in or enjoy social interactions

Signer l’exonération de responsabilité et l’entente d’acceptation du risque (voir section Inscription)

Sign the waiver

There seems to be a "virtual" even as well as a "real" event.

 

The virtual one seems to be a 200-question test about MEC stuff. Questions are released over a 24hr period.

 

The real one has a first prize of $5,000. ($2K in $ and $3K in MEC GCs) Runs over a 24hr period. Starts at the MEC in Montreal.

 

Sounds like a gas!

I wrote and asked and received the following answer..

 

"This activity was organized to promote MEC’s new French website and therefore has been communicated only to French speaking members who would eventually use the new website. I am sorry to say that there is no English equivalent for now but if this contest is a success, nothing tells us that it can’t become an activity for MEC across Canada in the future."

I frequent the MEC english stores and I hope MEC puts something on in other provinces !! This would be great for Geocaching in Canada to have an event like this across the country, nevermind the exposure for MEC.

I speak French, in fact I come from Montreal. Too bad I can't go... I live in Alberta now. I would certainly participate if I had been closer!

I can get around pretty well in french, did the whole french immersion thing. It sounds like a great idea with the in-store and virtual options. Now if only the contest was a month later, just one month, I'd be old enough.
