+5 Treasure Hunters
I was overwhelmed with all the paper so I decided to get a palm pilot. From reading these boards, it sounded like the palm pilot iiixe would work great for what I needed. I got one and the handheld unit itself seems to work fine but for the life of me I can not get it to hotsync. We have windows xp, and we do not have a serial port so we have been using usb. The troubleshooting on Palm.com really hasn't helped us so I was really hoping someone here would know since the unit I have seems to be a popular one here. Here is what I know- when I put the palm in the cradle and push the sync button, it turns on the palm, so I know THAT connection works. When I put the usb into the port it makes a little noise, so I know it is registering that I am putting something in. but then nothing happens. I just want to cache........ Quote Link to comment

You installed the Palm hotsync software on your PC, and it is running? (a little cirlcle with red and blue arrows pointing toward the center in your task icons by the clock) Quote Link to comment
+Scorpion King
I had a similar problem. On MY computer, the HotSync manager didn't load automatically. Before you plug your Palm in, Go turn it on manually. Let me know if that worked...if not, what happened..?? Quote Link to comment
+nickdanewguy
also if you have the hotsync icon in the lower right of your screen right click on it and make sure it is set to usb and not serial port! took me a minute or two to figure that out! lol but its now working. hope this helps!...joe Quote Link to comment
+WhatsRNutts
On my palm I have to hot the hot sync button on the PDA then the one one the puter. then hit cancel on the PDA then hit hot sync again. Don't know why but you might want to try that. Quote Link to comment
+5 Treasure Hunters
yep, the hotsync icon is on at the bottom of the screen and it is set to usb. wreckelite- not sure if I understand correctly. what should I hit on the computer? The hotsync icon on the taskbar only configures it. Quote Link to comment
Not So Lost Puppies
Have you tried starting hotsync from the palm application screen instead of the cradle button? Quote Link to comment
+5 Treasure Hunters
yep, that doesn't work either. It tries on the pda end but NOTHING pops up ever on the computer. Quote Link to comment

Tried other USB ports? restart the computer with the palm in the cradle? What version of HotSync manager? is it a true USB connector to your cradle, or is it a usb-serial converter between the computer and cradle? Quote Link to comment
+5 Treasure Hunters
well, on setup we clicked both usb & serial after uninstalling & reinstalling and ta-da it seemed to work! Now I must see what I need to download to put my caches in there! Thanks for the help guys! Quote Link to comment
+WhatsRNutts
there should be an icon on the desktop called "hotsync manager" when I click it it syncs the palm. But Mine is a little weird, and probably on the blink so I would disregard what I said. Quote Link to comment
