2oldfarts (the rockhounders)
We would like to thank stvanme for his offer to have special pins made for those who are in the contest. After discussing with him about the graphics for the pin, we came to the agreement that all contestants can offer their suggestions on how the pin should look. A final decision will be made after the contest starts (probably around April 15th). If you wish to have your graphic considered, be sure you are signed up for the contest! We discussed what the price range would be but didn't reach an exact price. I think something was mentioned about all contestants who score at least 20 points, Might get one free. (20 points is equal to about 1 benchmark per week for the duration of the contest.) Any thoughts? Don't beg & grovel too much though, just enough to make stvanme feel appreciated! What do you think? 2oldfarts (the rockhounders)
I would like something along these lines... Only maybe with Grey hair and a GPSr instead of a pick? Maybe a beard? He could depict an average Benchmark hunter going after those oldies for the 2006 Benchmark Contest. Any thoughts on this one or one of your own? Shirley~ Quote Link to comment
+4leafclover
I think one that looks like a regular benchmark would also be cool. Quote Link to comment
+Firefighter Skippy
A pin sounds neat. At this time I have no prefrence of style. Quote Link to comment
+GEO*Trailblazer 1
You mean like this. Here is my idea for the bm geocoin. The wording could be changed. Just a sneak. Quote Link to comment
+Klemmer
Either one is great by me! I'll be happy to buy one, whether or not I get the required points. I sure hope to do so. Quote Link to comment

That is just what I had thought as a pin. And, your geocoin sure looks cool. I think the words are just right. But, that is just my humble opinion... Shirley~ Quote Link to comment
StripeMark
GEO, I like the benchmark coin better also. If you offer these to anyone who wants to buy one, I'd buy one even though I'm not entering the contest. Looks great! Quote Link to comment
2oldfarts (the rockhounders)
We would like to thank stvanme for his offer to have special pins made for those who are in the contest. A final decision will be made after the contest starts (probably around April 15th). If you wish to have your graphic considered, be sure you are signed up for the contest! I have another idea. This is an actual picture of an old mark found by JoGPS in WILSON county, TN -GC2163. And another of a mark in SAN BERNARDINO county, CA -FS0257 found first by imapackrat (no pics) and then by Me and Bucky with a lot of pics. A close-up, and now the one of the far shots... Do you think either of these marks would make a great looking pin - maybe with '2006 benchmark contest' along the bottom and top? Boy, stvanme and GeoTrailblazer1 know how to get me thinking and trying to remember some of the marks I have seen posted that might look good. Shirley~ Quote Link to comment
+cjf
Does this mean only boys can play? I feel left out. Perhaps a more gender-neutral pin, like one of those cool old benchmarks? Quote Link to comment
+The Fossillady
My vote is for the benchmark pin or coin. The Fossillady Edited March 13, 2006 by fossillady Quote Link to comment
2oldfarts (the rockhounders)
Are there any other ideas for the pin? Any artists who might draw a design for a pin? Only 2 weeks to go before the contest starts. Just a reminder, it is stvanme who is covering the cost for these pins, and he has asked for suggestions on what the pins should look like. +4leafclover
I wish I could help with the artwork...but i have NO talent in that department. Is there a price in mind yet? Quote Link to comment

As of the moment, we (stvanme & the 2oldfarts) are leaning towards free, if you get XX number of points in the contest. We haven't decided on a final figure yet, but it will be about 15-20 points or so. This will be based on the number of participants. If you verbally draw a picture of what you think would be a good looking pin, I'm sure someone will do the actual drawing for it. John Quote Link to comment
+woody_k
Since you are talking about them being free (but I would pay for one) I think it should be kept simple. The bronze colored BM pin is kind of cool but the pic of the US BM chisled in stone is even better. A square pin with the top letters being US or USGS. The bottom letter could be BM with 2006 in a bit smaller letters in the middle. Have the face of the pin have that split rock look. I am not an artist nor am I creative. Quote Link to comment
+Airmapper
I like the way this one looks. I like the dull finish, and the ring on the outside containing the words, and the interior having the image. (That pic was HUGE!, it is now a thumbnail, click for a detailed view.) +4leafclover
could I trade "third prize" for one...I doubt I'll ever scare up enough points! But seriously, I'd like the option to buy one if I don't get enough point. I mena...you have to fund them some how. Quote Link to comment
