GerbilMafia
I was wondering if I could get a consensus on what the hardest / most challenging cache in Indiana might be. Basically I'm looking for several people who agree that one specific cache is the best cache around. I'm more interested in physically challenging caches and not so much the puzzle's (I know their hard) but feel free to include those as well. I recently completed The Journal in Illinois and wondered if anything compared closer to home. Quote Link to comment
Bean Blossom Gang
Well GM.... I am guessing the newest "Indiana's Hardest Cache" is going to be this one Insane Asylum http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...7f-9d5393a61d57 Seems Prairiepartners and BikiniBottomFeeders have teamed up to bring us "Insane Asylum". I suppose that those of us suffering from "Total Insanity" are supposed to be the new "inmates" This cache went live last night, and knowing PP & BBF it WILL "Drive us ALL insane". +mintaka
So far, my vote goes to: The Messenger's Demise I haven't had the pleasure of looking at Insane Asylum yet Quote Link to comment
S Keillan
While not necessarily the hardest, one of the most time-consuming is the Greater Lafayette Geocache. Probably not on the same level as The Journal over in Illinois, but as most of the caches are urban micros, it's definitely challenge enough. Just my two pence. Quote Link to comment

GerbilMafia
I am watching every cache that has been listed thus far. Insane Asylum.........wow. Quote Link to comment
Bean Blossom Gang
Apparently figuring out the "photo clue" for Insane Asylum is the EASY part. I can't even imagine how in the world they have hidden the cache AND ITS AN AMMO CAN, not a microscopic mini with a million hiding places. Quote Link to comment
Prairiepartners
AND ITS AN AMMO CAN, not a microscopic mini with a million hiding places. It's a large ammo box, even larger than a 50 cal . Quote Link to comment
Son-of-a-Jeep
I have got it figured out but to far away to go get it on short notice. I didnt think it was hard, if you have done another hard cache. But defenitly NOT the hardest. Quote Link to comment
dougsmiley
I narrowed the insane aslym one to a 200 foot line in notime. If I could get down there to get it, I would. Quote Link to comment
Prairiepartners
I hear all the talk, but seems no one is getting past next stage... Quote Link to comment
bikinibottomfeeders
all this talk about hard caches is setting the wheels in motion.... be careful what you wish for... Not only have I lived in this area for over 20 years but I know most of the county like the back of my hand and believe me I can think of many more places and hides to make many many more 5/5 caches....mwhahaha mwhahaha mwhahaha Quote Link to comment

I should say this must not be like what i thought it was. Maybe on some of the stages are like other cache's..... Quote Link to comment
Joypa
I'm surprised no one mentioned Shelter II. The logs on this one are quite entertaining. Quote Link to comment
Team Shydog
Going back to GM's question, Are there any physically hard caches in Indiana? I just did a cache in Tenn. that was in the bottom of a sinkhole at the mouth of a cave. Lot's of fun! Are there any in this state like that? Chris-Team Shydog Quote Link to comment
GerbilMafia
Exactly shydog......thats the type of cache I'm looking for. I think Insane Asylum might be somewhat physically challenging but no one really knows for sure.........yet. Quote Link to comment
Team Shydog
I too think I.S. will lead to a physical challange. I did remember one cache I did as a group in the middle of a snow storm and only imagine it could be a bear in the summer time. Coal Miners Cabin Again- GCG5GY Quote Link to comment
RPW
If all you want are physically hard caches then it is easy enough to run a pocket query. Of course this assumes that people are rating thier caches properly. Assuming that then you would want caches either 4 or 4.5 stars for terrain but not neccessarily 5 stars because 5-star is reserved for "special needs" (e.g., a canoe) which you may not have. I also notice that GerbilMafia likes non-micros to hunt. So ...running a pocket query based on this information shows 37 physically-terrain-hard, non-micro, non-small caches in Indiana. Centering the search around GerbilMafia's home town of Peru shows that "Black Puma Gorge" is the nearest to him. Interestingly GM found this and wrote: ".... This one is truely awesome. Watch your step or you may take a long fall. I'm hooked. ..." Now it is time time to find the other 36. Go get 'em tiger! BTW: GM asks for a consensus on the hardest cache(s). I doubt if anyone has done all 37 (altough I wouldn't put it past Deermark and Daggy) and thus it will be difficult to get an consensus. Perhaps GM can do all of them and give us a report? :-) Edited March 8, 2006 by RPW Quote Link to comment
B.J.S.
I too think I.S. will lead to a physical challange. I did remember one cache I did as a group in the middle of a snow storm and only imagine it could be a bear in the summer time. Coal Miners Cabin Again- GCG5GY I did Coals Miner's Cabin in July, but early in the morning before it got too hot. I didn't think it was that dificult, at least not as dificult as every one around this area makes it out to be. My son, Son-of-a-Jeep wants to do it at night, anyone ellse want to go?? Quote Link to comment
Deermark
I am probably a bit prejudiced but I feel that the most physically challenging caches are in the Southern part of Indiana. So much hillier down here. Check out GCRCT5 Capt McHarry's Vault. Also GCRVV2 Tornado Challenge. Check out the logs. Be sure to read from the bottom up. Funny. There are plenty more down here to make you sweat. Deermark Quote Link to comment
Son-of-a-Jeep
Yes, if anyone wants to do http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GCG5GY at night, Just send me a message and I will try to get a date set. Quote Link to comment
S Keillan
Bumping up an older topic, I suppose that Shelter III might be a candidate for hardest cache, given the difficulty of the hide and the avian presents left at the scene. By the way, congratulations to the Bean Blossom Gang for finding Insane Asylum, along with getting their 400th find. Perhaps it's still the hardest, but I suspect they'll never tell. +Bean Blossom Gang
Found what???? What did I find???? Where DID those coins on my desk come from???? Sorry guys but my brief admission to INSANE ASYLUM seems to have caused a bit on amnesia :( (hysterical laughter) Quote Link to comment
Team Shydog
Hey GM, Not in Indiana but within a days drive. Look up GCG4TT That one might be what you are looking for. BBG- I let you borrow those coins at the Trail Mix, you said you would return them this week :-) Quote Link to comment

You have to get down to Bloomington and try this cache, you will LOVE IT!!! The final phase is hysterical! Quote Link to comment
Team Shydog
I can't even get past the darn picture on the cache page. Puzzle caches don't like me and I feel the same way about them. Shy does have a small treat for you for being FTF on IS, I will get it to you the next time I am down that way. Quote Link to comment
Bean Blossom Gang
Thanks Shydog - I should have at least one picture to post of what I looked like after finishing the cache - YUCK! I need to finish the roll first. I destroyed one digital camera while caching, so I have decided to just pack a disposable camera from now on. Quote Link to comment
