Bog Woppit Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 As the first series of Lost finishes, the next begins in Northampton… 4. ‘Forty-eight survivors of a mid-Pacific plane crash are stranded on a mysterious island of harsh terrain, cruel weather and dark secrets, including a frightful creature that stalks the jungle. Now you can join them in one of the most extreme Event Caches ever – LOST: Your Journey.’ 8. On March 26th, venture through a series of cryptic clues, isolated adventures and shocking special effects in Northampton and the surrounding area. 15. With multiple Caches, each team will have a different adventure but you will be brought together again for the BBQ and grand pyrotechnic finale. The caches range from a simple Cache And Dash where you can trade items to full adventure scenarios that incorporate special effects and shocking surprises. 16. There is a maximum of 10 teams with a maximum of 5 in each team (if you cannot fit within these brackets, email me and I will see what I can do). If you have 10 people wanting to go, you will need to be in 2 teams of 5, if you have 3 you may be joined by a team of 2 23. The cost is £7 per person and this includes a BBQ and soft drinks at the end of your adventure. 42. You will need to be at the starting point in Great Billing at 2:30pm ready for a 2:45 leave. The event will take the rest of the day up to about 9pm (finish time is not definite). If you wish to sign up for the event, please email me at wycome5@aol.com. This is looking to be quite a popular cache (people were signing up within 2 hours of it going on the site) so if you want a place I would advise you to email me asap. Quote
+Haggis Hunter Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 Here is the Event Page. Always helpful to post a link on here, it's the only type of cache you can get away with posting on here. That's a hell of a lot of 0's in the co-ords, was it just lucky co-ords or did you go out of your way for them? I'm afraid though that I won't be able to attend, a bit too far to travel just now. +G Force Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 February 23 by Bog Woppit (7 found) A note to everyone that cannot attend as it is Mother's Day - if the event is a success, I may consider running it again 2 or 3 weeks later so look out for details! Is this a commercial enterprise or geocaching event? Quote

+lordelph Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 (edited) The posted coords are nowhere near the event, so people local to the area might not notice. I got all excited when I saw a new cache 6 miles from my house, but it's actually 50 miles away. Also, when a person with 6 cache finds to their name holds an event for £7/head, people are going naturally think this is a commercial activity. If I recall correctly, commercial advertising on this forum is not allowed Sound like you're putting a lot of effort in though, so best of luck! Edited February 25, 2006 by lordelph Quote

+Pengy&Tigger Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 It may have been better to put the fake co-ords nearer the actual event - not everyone looks at all events in the UK. T Quote

T I was under the impression that fake co-ords had to be within 1 mile of the cache location, allowing TB's to get near correct mileage. Quote
+John Stead Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 It might be helpful if one of our admirable approvers could advise what is considered the correct radius for fake coordinates for puzzles and similar caches - I had thought it was 10 miles? Quote

I think we have hijacked this thread, so I have started a new one here, so that this thread can stay on topic, which is about an event and not fake co-ords. Edit: Helps if I put the correct link in. +John Stead Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 Quite right too - I hope the event is a great success though a bit too far for me. Quote
Bog Woppit Posted February 25, 2006 Author Posted February 25, 2006 (edited) This is NOT a commercial event, the reason the cost is £7 is because we want to provide good food and a good event. The finale is set in the crash site from Lost which in volves elements of a crashed plane, lots of cammo netting and more which is the other element of money involved. Also, I have a fellow GeoCacher who does my co-ords (I just organise the event and run it) and they accidentaly gave me the wrong ones so currently I have posted on the page that they are wrong and will be corrected asap. I also posted that it is in Great Billing, Northampton so most people should pick up on that. Edit - now changed the co-ordinates. Edited February 25, 2006 by Bog Woppit Quote
Bog Woppit Posted February 25, 2006 Author Posted February 25, 2006 If you are attending this event, please be aware, this is likely to be like no cache you have ever done before. Please come with an open mind and preapre for something new, unusual and exciting! The event features scenrios from LOST, pyrotechnics and special effects that you may never have seen, especially not at an event cache. Work is in process for the finale which should end the day with a real bang! Quote

Shame its on mother's day, else we probably would have been there. Good luck with your event. Quote
Bog Woppit Posted February 25, 2006 Author Posted February 25, 2006 You can always take your Mums out for the day! There is no really long walks on this so it is ok for the older generations. Quote

+Haggis Hunter Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 EVENT MOVED TO 25TH MARCH TO AVOID CLASH WITH MOTHER'S DAY. That may be a good descision, as you will undoubtfully get more people attending? Point to note, is that it may be an idea to send an email to all who signed up before you changed the dates, so that they are aware of the change. Good luck with the event, and also welcome to this mad addiction and to the forums. Quote
Bog Woppit Posted February 26, 2006 Author Posted February 26, 2006 Already emailed them Haggis! Also emailed everyone who said they couldn't go because of Mother's Day. Quote
