+cynwood
I have been using my friends Magellan Sportrack. Borrowed it about a month ago for a scout trip. Since I have been having so much fun I told her I was holding it hostage until I get my own, if she wants to use it she will have to go caching with me! This was fine with her since she don't drive and doesn't get to go caching much without a way. Dropped a hint to my mother that if she wanted a suggestion for my bday, that a GPS was what I wanted. Picked up my new Magellan eXplorist 400 this morning. The battery is now charged and ready to try out. Time to go caching!! Quote Link to comment

+STurgisSTeele
Own a Quest, isn't the best for geocaching since it takes several steps just to enter a waypoint but then again, it is designed more for automotive use. (Edit) My mistake, after visiting www.elsinga.net/questfaq I see that making a waypoint is far easier than the way I WAS doing it! Had a GPS V for several years. Sure had a lot of fun with that unit. Let's see, the grey one is a garmin gpsmap 60c, yellow unit #1 is a magellan meridian (basic version), yellow unit #2 is a garmin etrex, the black one is a magellan 4000xl, a golden oldie which is actually useable for geocaching despite being 10 years old or so. I used to have a magellan meridian platinum, but it got stolen from my car. Quote Link to comment
+Brian Stirling
My first GPSr was the Garmin GPS50 back in 1992 or there abouts. Back then you HAD to be a nerd to own a GPSr! My next unit was the Garmin 12XL and I actually had to get a second one when I lost my first. Turns out I hadn't actually lost the first one but mearly misplaced it so when I found it I then had two of them with the second one being the later rev. The misplaced first 12XL was found under the hood of my car (98 Acura Integra GSR) after putting about 3000 miles on it! I loaned the first unit to a friend and haven't seem him an about 3 years now. Just about 6 weeks ago, while travelling in southern Utah, I left the 12XL on the hood of my car and when I drove off I heard a noise and when I looked in my mirror I saw it bouncing on the road and breaking into a couple pieces. I went back and picked up the pieces and a few weeks later, after ordering a new GPSr (Garmin 60CSx) I was able to put it back together and it works! It is not in good shape however and will, from this moment on, be relegated to in car navigation with my laptop and Delorme StreetAtlas. My latest GPSr, as indicated just above, is the Garmin 60CSx and it looks like a sweet unit... Brian Quote Link to comment

+RedhedMary
Y'know, I've been using a Cobra GPS1000 for just over a year now. It can't be too bad, because I'm closing in on 500 caches, mostly by myself. rod71251
I just got my first GPS this week! It's a Lowrance iFinder GO. I bought it mainly for use while turkey hunting, but then I discovered the world of geocaching while surfing the web. I have 10 caches stored as waypoints, and I'm ready to roam. By the way, I'm shocked that so few people in this forum own the iFinder GO, as it was the least expensive unit I could find. I bought mine used on Ebay for $66(including shipping). I think they retail between $79-$89. I've read a couple of negative reviews about it, but my GPS has been great so far. I had a lock within 15 seconds right out of the box, and this was 5 feet from my computer room window. Also, I roamed around inside the house and never lost my signal. I took the unit to my deerstand while I planted a food plot, and again never lost signal even under heavy tree cover. I set my arrival alarm to go off at .01/mile, and when I pulled into my driveway my alarm went off as I was about 30 feet from where I saved the Home waypoint. Although I don't have all the bells and whistles of more expensive units, I think I have a great first-time GPS. I'm pretty sure if I ever decide to upgrade, it will be another Lowrance. Well, enough blabbering about my new toy, I'm off to find some caches! Quote Link to comment
