LAUNCHES ======== GPS IIR-M1 (PRN17/SVN53) was launched on 26 Sep 2005 at 0337 UT from Cape Canaveral, Florida and will reside in Plane C, Slot 4 (C4). PRN17/SVN53 is the first modernized GPS satellite that will broadcast two new military signals and a second civil signal (L2C). +EraSeek Posted February 24, 2006 Author Share Posted February 24, 2006 The benefit of the new second civil signal (L2C) is that it will give you accuracy simular to WAAS. The benefit of WAAS is that it gives you assured integrity of the system that L2C cannot insure. Quote Link to comment

An interesting side note to me is that the Delta II launch vehicle is a direct descendent of the Thor-Delta rocket that put Telstar into orbit 44 years ago.
