tarotreader3 Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 I'm new to this scene, and I was playing around with easyGPS and noticed that you could upload and download tracks from your GPS unit to it. I was wondering if there were any websites, organized similar to this one, that had tracks laid out that would make ideal hikes? I've tried searching these forums, and also google, but I havn't come up with anything (perhaps i'm just not the websearcher I thought I was.) Any help would be greatly appreciated. -tr3 Quote
peter Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 Yes, there are some. That might be part of the problem since having multiple sites which each have a small subset of trails makes the information harder to use. Here are a few I know about: http://trailregistry.com/trailregistry/index.jsp http://www.travelbygps.com http://www.gpsxchange.com/ Quote
+Jamie Z Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 Maybe this could be another market for Groundspeak to enter. There seems to be no good central place to go for trail information. Groundspeak already has a good base of dedicated GPS users and outdoor enthusiasts. In the meantime, could this be a Waymark category? Jamie Quote
Grasscatcher Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 Check out NG Topo. Look for MapXchange for lots of examples. It's a pain to get the track data out of Topo and into some of the other softwares but several developers are working on that Quote
+embra Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 Another good resoure (in NG Topo format) is www.localhikes.com Also take a look for local trail/track pages. Quote
