mmlevin
I'm new. I'm confused. I want the best, but all the forums say that there is no "best," only best compromise. I looked at the specs for the Garmin GPSMap 60CSx and 76CSx, and they seem to have all the features one should strive for, therefore they appear to be the "perfect" units (which I'm told do not exist). Am I missing something? For somebody new to geocaching, who wants a unit that can double as a portable unit with mapping for use when travelling out of town, are there better units? Or do these seem to have it all? I'd love to hear some comments, because (according to the sales hype) these two units appear to have it all. ---Confused Quote Link to comment
gekocacher
Both the units you mention are near identical, they both perform exactly the same, it is just the forming of the case shape which difers, the 76 is a more traditional marine line, whereas the 60 series is more outdoor specific. There are a few differences in the antenna type a quad helix on the 60 series giving 360 deg coverage whereas on the 76 it has a patch antenna limiting visibilty of the satelites, that said the sirfstar III chipset should counteract that. I also think that the 76 floats if dropped in water giving it more marine application ??? Don't quote me on that ! Quote Link to comment

Finally decided that I liked the looks of the 60, and went with that one. It all depends on your wants and needs. Quote Link to comment
+WoodenShoe
Both the 76 and the 60 have Quadhelix antennas, not just the 60series. The 76 floats and Used to have more internal memory than the 60. Different button setup on both. All gps units have some things you will or will not like. I like the button layout on the 76 and the fact that it floats...is it worth the extra money??...personal choice. Next year both units will be better (true in all electronics)...but im interested in the new x units and im just waiting for the new maping software to be announced before I buy. Then again I have a 76S at this time so no need to rush out and buy. From Garmins site on the 76CSX # New high-sensitivity WAAS-capable GPS receiver by SiRF # Built-in quad-helix receiving antenna with remote antenna capability Quote Link to comment
