Lavareef
Hi everybody, I'd like to release my first travel bug with somewhat of a "theme", the goal being for him to have his picture taken with several things and then (hopefully!) make it back to me. Would a goal list consisting of "Please take his picture with one of the following:" be frowned upon? I realise the "risks" of having a TB in that he might get lost/marooned/stolen/forgotten, and I'm not asking if it will be a "hit" for sure, but I would like to know if there's any reason (in the experience of you folks) not to do this. Cheers Edited February 17, 2006 by Lavareef Quote Link to comment
+AuntieWeasel
Well, it depends. "Please take a picture at a football stadium" is a very common sort of goal. "Please take a picture with the most unusual marital aid you own" probably would be less acceptable. The biggest risk is that people seldom play along with goals, anyhow. You're lucky if TB's move around and don't vanish. Though, every once in a while, you get a good sport who does something neat with a bug's goal. Quote Link to comment
+Renegade Knight
It depends on the goal. "Have my TB taken holding a Shotgun in the lap of Deadeye Dick" would not be very likely to happen. On a beach, by Mickey Mouse, near a Yellow Jeep... no problem. Overall your idea is fine. Quote Link to comment
+reveritt
..."Please take a picture with the most unusual marital aid you own" probably would be less acceptable.... Well, so much for that idea. You will get more cooperation on achieving the goal if it is something easy, like taking a picture at a waterfall or a train station. Make sure you print the bug sheet and bag it up with the bug, so people can read the goal before deciding if they want to take the bug. Quote Link to comment
Lavareef
The rules themselves are pretty open (a green hill, a chemical plant, a hill top, a casino), they just all fit one theme. Thanks for the replies so far, that clears things up. I'll give it a shot, and if nothing happens it's not the end of the world. Edited February 17, 2006 by Lavareef Quote Link to comment

+WebbyCat
Lizzie You just really never know what's going to happen with TB's and their goals. I released my Lizzie Borden TB 22 months ago from Kansas with a goal to travel to Fall River, MA to have her picture taken in front of the Borden House Bed & Breakfast where the crime occurred, then to return to Kansas to a cache close to my home. I've never had a TB with such a specific goal, and to make matters worse, the TB was fairly large sized and not able to fit into a lot of caches. I figured that there was no way Lizzie would ever make it, but released her anyway. It took 22 months, but Lizzie made it-she even got her photo taken outside and also inside the bed and breakfast in the actual murder room. Last week she was put in a cache 20 miles from my home, and I went and picked her up. It still amazes me that this TB was so successful. So you just never know what's going to happen. That's the fun of it. Quote Link to comment
+JC_Geo
My wife's fifth grade class released a TB by the name of Little D. Little D is the DARE Lion. The class released it after their Graduation from the DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program. Little D's goal is to travel all over having his picture taken with DARE vehicles and let cachers know what the DARE program is about. He has been photographed a few times so far. I would like to get a hotwheels sort of car to do the same sort of thing. but am not having any luck locating such a car to use as a TB. As a truck driver I have seen many of the Dare cars out there. and some of them are pretty sharp looking. Quote Link to comment
+Harry Dolphin
Speaking as someone who made a trip to the Statue of Liberty, just because Travel Bug Arnold Ziffel wanted to go there: Arnold and Lady Liberty, sometimes helping bugs with their goals is fun! Quote Link to comment

Try googling "dare matchbox" I got like 180,000 hits. There is one on E-bay to buy now. It's $10 though, a bit pricey for a TB. Quote Link to comment
