+poormanshummer Posted February 12, 2006 Share Posted February 12, 2006 Howdy, I've recenly noticed that the turn warning on my 60csx are occuring very close to the turns as opposed to my 60cs which actually gave me some breathing time. Has anyone seen a way to change the warning time ie. beep earlier? All the people I've been cutting off would greatly appreciate it! Thanx Quote Link to comment
+Alan2 Posted February 12, 2006 Share Posted February 12, 2006 I don't have a csx but had a similar problem with my PPC with high sensitive CF GPS. The delays created by the chipset often made me miss the intersection I wanted to turn at. I'mk wondering if a similr thing is happening here - possibly caused by trying to lock on WASS sats or something similar. Is there a way to disable WASS selection and if so does that make a difference? Quote Link to comment

But it first beeps to warn of an approaching turn with plenty of time for me to prepare to make the turn. The final beep is basically a turn now beep. Posted February 12, 2006 Share Posted February 12, 2006 (edited) I find that if im on the Map page, even when im the passenger, instead of the Driver, the Map page does no good at times, and I tend to miss turns anyway. A good way, is to page to the Active Route Page, and look at the list of Turns comming up. It gives the distance, and time to each turn in the list. I hope there is a firmware update, because my 60Cx is slow on everything, like the Day/Night mode, takes a full minute, before it switches to the right mode. - Geoff Edited February 12, 2006 by GOT GPS? vfrpilot Posted February 12, 2006 Share Posted February 12, 2006 WAAS can be turned off. The FIELDS can be added or deleted to include TIME to next turn as well as DISTANCE to next turn. Keeping the map zoomed out will also give you a UP AHEAD view of your route, so in conjunction with the TIME & DISTANCE fields added, you KNOW what you're expecting. I also (with my new 60c) have the 1st warning beep set at something different than my FINAL warning beep. These things work for me - just my 2 cents Quote Link to comment

But I agree, mine will give me a warning beep about 1/4 to 1/8th mile before the turn, then a longer beep right at the turn. I haven't changed any of the factory settings, this is how it came. +PhntmArcher Posted February 13, 2006 Share Posted February 13, 2006 I noticed the same thing comparing my 76Cx to my 76C. Here is a copy of a letter is sent to Garmin, and their reply. I have noticed a "delay" in the alerts when using my 76Cx. As a small, unscientific test I put both of my units on my dash (76C & 76Cx), loaded with City Select 7. I picked a couple of Waypoints and started driving around the neighborhood. Observations: Alerts for making a turn the 76C would give the First Alert at 0.3 miles, the 76Cx would give the First alert at 0.2 mile. The second alert, the 76C would alert somewhere around 475 feet, the 76Cx would alert at around 225 feet. This makes a noticeable difference when trying to navigate busy roads (especially in an unfamiliar area). The 76Cx does not give nearly as much time to change lanes or prepare for an exit. I also switched between my 128mb and 512mb memory. And yes there is a noticeable audible difference between the two units... the 76C being louder. Are these issues that can or could be addressed in a firmware update? PS: Any chance of getting the alarm clock back? GARMINS RESPONSE: Hello I am writing in regards to your 76Cx issue. +Team Trail Walker Posted February 13, 2006 Share Posted February 13, 2006 I used the auto-rout on my 60CSx for a cache trip today and noted the first beep at around .5 miles and the second beep at around 500ft. I did not look at the unit instantly as I haven't purchased a mount for it yet and I didn't want to look away from the road until I was confident I could do so safely. When I asked Garmin about that, they sad no. The new x model do not have an option to run program in "off" modus. So there are not and will not be Alarm clock or possibility to sample pressure measure when the GPS is off. PS can any of you with an x try to start the stopwatch, turn of the GPS, turn it on and see if it still runs correct? Quote Link to comment

Hit menu twice; choose setup, hit enter; choose routing, hit enter; choose follow road options, hit enter; choose off route recalculation, hit enter; pick the option you want and hit enter. New x owners should pay close attention to firmware upgrades. It seems GPSs are no different than any other electronic product ..... new owners are the beta testers and get to find all the new bugs in the product. Johnny Vegas mentoned in another thread that garmin will be releasing some new receivers this summer, I'm wondering if they will use this.
