+killerbunnies Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 (edited) Mrs killerbunnies - and Mrs geogourmet - are huge fans of farmers markets. We already have 8 farmers' markets around country victoria as waypoints in our GPS, along with the days and times that they are open. They are a great "sidetrack" to visit while you are out geocaching in the area! Many farmers' markets are in remote country locations where it's difficult to actually pinpoint the locations on your GPS, so it makes it tricky for us cityfolk to find them. Let's create a Waymarking category so that we can build up a database of where and when these farmers' markets are on! The killerbunnies are willing to own the category. PS: silverquill has already suggested this category in a list of ideas, but we think that this category justifies its own separate category proposal. Edited February 10, 2006 by killerbunnies
+Razak Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 I like the idea. In my town alone there are three fairly major markets and am sure there are numerous smaller ones in the surrounding area that not as many people know about. If this gets made into a category I'd like to see times the market occurs (since they all have their days) and what types of product you can usually find in them. I realize this changes with season, but markets usually do have their traditional products... I know one in town has mostly breads, honies, and flowers, and then a ton of corn in corn season, but another one has more foods so if you are looking for more various kinds of foods the second one might be better, but the first one is actually bigger and more fun to go to. It may also be nice to note prices as not all markets are equal price-wise either (maybe you could do a star system not unlike hotels and such).
+silverquill Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 I certainly agree that this is a worthy category which is why I suggested it. True, I included it in the same post as some other suggestions, but that doesn't mean that is is not a separate category of its own. I'm not so sure that categories are "owned," or if they just have "managers." The method of assigning categories to managers is still undefined as far as I can tell. Do they automatically go to whomever is determined to have fist suggested it? Anyway, I would certainly consider having you run this category if it were mine to give away. You obviously have a passion for this one, and that is most important. But, I have a passion for waterfalls, and existing category. That doesn't mean I have to control the category to enjoy it. I can passionately contribute wayponts to it! That is my understanding of how this works, unless one is into an ego thing about "owning" categories. I think some clarification from the Powers That Be would be in order. Larry (silverquill)
+chstress53 Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 This is a duplicate proposal This was proposed back in Aug 2005 here http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...1&st=&p=entry and I proposed this on Dec 14. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...1&st=&p=entry
