2sleepy
I'm looking to buy may 1st GPS. They all seem to say North and South America base maps, but what about Europe and Asia? I will be traveling to these places and would like to look for caches there. Quote Link to comment
+Whittling Fisher
I own a garmin unit and have notiiced while looking at Garmins site that they sell road maps for Europe and maybe some other countires ( City Navigator). It works the same as the North America version and allows you to type in an address or point of interest and it will navigate along the roads to get you there. I'm not sure if that is what your looking for or not, but hopefully it will help some. Quote Link to comment
+Jamie Z
The deciding factor (in my mind) is going to be map availability. I think both Garmin and Magellan have offerings for detailed maps of Europe and maybe Australia... and they each have detailed maps of a select few other places around the world. They both also offer a verson of world basemap, which isn't very detailed for either, but will give you some idea about towns and roads. If I were you, I'd look through the software offerings on both companies' website to determine which has better coverage for the areas in which you travel. Be prepared for these low-demand software packages to be $100 or more. Once you select a software package, you can start looking at GPSs. Garmin maps will only work on a Garmin GPS and Magellan is the same way. Jamie Quote Link to comment
