Different 2006 Usa Geocoins?

Hi-

I looked back at the initial post advertising the 2006 USA geocoins, and I didn't see this being discussed.

I did something silly. I ordered 4 (that's not the silly part.) Somewhere I got it in my head that the order wasn't completed...the coins ran out, some odd thing like that. So one day on e-whoosywhatsy, I saw a 2006 USA Geocoin, and as I have the 2005 coin, I wanted this one too. So I bought it.

Today, I get a package from the merchant where I apparently successfully purchased the first 4 geocoins! Imagine my surprise! But not half the surprise as when I got the auction coin from out of it's pouch and looked at both of them, and noticed they were different!

Nothing big, the pictures are the same, although the feathers on one eagle look bigger and more defined then the other. But the 2006 and the Tracking Number are alternated. And the tracking numbers are different, too (duh). What I mean is, on the one coin I got from the auction site, the tracking number is a 5 numerical digit (horizontally to the left of the eagle). On the 4 from the merchant, the tracking number is a US, followed by 4 mixed digits (vertically, to the right of the eagle.)

Has anyone else noticed this? I think it's pretty neat, didn't know if it was common.

It sounds like they have changed their number format on the coins form the 5 digit tracking number to the now traditional 6 digit number. My guess is that the 5 digits from this year is what they had left over and GC.com gave them the new 6 digit to use from now on.

I bought 5 USA coins and mine have the 5 numbers horizontally on them. I know they had to order more because the 1st batch sold out so maybe the 2nd batch is different from the 1st batch??

You are correct. The first batch were the last ones to use the numeric numbering.

In order to get the alphanumberic numbering to fit we had to switch sides of where the year and the number plate are located.

The Eagle design is still the same design.

I would say more like a version 1 and a version 1a

Version 2 would be a totally different design. Don't want people to get too confused. B)

Just adding a question to go along with this 2006 USA Geocoin. When I ordered two geocoins on 1-17-06 I was under the impression they were ready to ship. I have not received them yet. Were these coins preorder on that date, or did they run out and I am on the next batch? I very seldom do preorders anymore and don't remember seeing the preorder on the website.

I think that Atlantagal may be thinking what I am, that the V.1 2006 may be more collectable now that the V.1a will be the "normal" coin. Now I will have to order the "new" USA 2006 coin.

It should have been stated on the order page at that time that the coins were on backorder. As of a few days ago all the backorders have been shipped.

Sure those are USA Geocoins? The numbers did not go that high.
