+Airmapper Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 So, what's going to happen with the forum ignore user feature, anyone using it yet? Like it? Dislike it? How will it change the forums, if at all? Quote
+New England n00b Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 I don't use it. There's noone whose opinion I hate enough to use it. I skim threads as it is. I manually ignore if something gets off topic enough. Will some people use it? I'm sure, and to good effect. However I have the good position to not really care what anybody says. One board I was on that had the ignore feature... well, it didn't work out so well. People would see a blank post (due to being ignored) in one of their threads, so there was a lot of turning off and turning on. And of course, everyone was mature about it. Quote
+Googling Hrpty Hrrs Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 I would think it would get confusing when people start referring to posts you didn't read. I agree with nOOb- the annoying posts are the most fun to read! Quote
+Team Dubbin Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 So, what's going to happen with the forum ignore user feature, anyone using it yet? Like it? Dislike it? How will it change the forums, if at all? I cant answer that since I have you ignored Quote
+budd-rdc Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 So, what's going to happen with the forum ignore user feature, anyone using it yet? Like it? Dislike it? How will it change the forums, if at all? I have a better feature. I mentally ignore the forums when I want. No need for software crutches! I'll likely not use it, since if I'm here, I'd like to read a thread uncensored. I prefer people getting banned. Quote

+AuntieWeasel Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 I haven't actually found the ignore option yet, but I'd be interested to know if it's possible to ignore moderators. I'm thinking of doing that, so I won't have any idea if I've gone too far until I'm banned. Kind of spice up my forum experience, if you know what I mean... Quote
Keystone Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Steps for ignoring a moderator: 1. Click on "My Controls" at the top right of the forums page. 2. Towards the bottom of the left-hand column, look for the "Options" menu. 3. Select "Manage Ignored Users" from that menu. 4. In one of the blank boxes, type "Keystone." See the little note on that page, however, that says that some users cannot be ignored, because of the settings for the group they are in. For example, I am in the group called "Sitewide Moderators." Give it a try and report back with your findings. It is quite likely that I simply cannot be ignored. Auntie, you know I'm irresistible. Quote

+NotThePainter Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 I certainly intend to use it! One sad fact of the Internet is the prescense of the Trolls. Are you one? I'd pretty much say if you have to ask this question of yourself you are one. But that doesn't matter. If I think you are one, I don't want to read you anymore. Poof! Quote
+AuntieWeasel Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Ah, in my day, I was a most excellent troll. One of my favorite pastimes was baiting people who claimed to have me on ignore. Sooner or later, they'd always break. Good times, good times. Quote
+sbell111 Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 (edited) The biggest problem with being a troll is all the waiting under the bridge. Edited February 7, 2006 by sbell111 Quote
Trinity's Crew Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 I know this is off-topic, but since we're talking trolls, I want some clarification. I always thought the term derived from trolling, like fishing. You know, you put the lure in the water and troll along at 2-3 knots and wait for a fish to bite. So is it trolling (fishing) or are you a troll (waiting under a bridge to eat billy goats and small children)? On topic, if nobody answers (sees) this, I think I hate the ignore feature. Quote
+sbell111 Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 There's so much time waiting for the next kid, that a troll gets hungry and bored. TO help aleviate both, he drops a line in the water. Quote
+Airmapper Posted February 7, 2006 Author Posted February 7, 2006 (edited) I don't think I'm going to ignore anyone, I'd much rather see their rantings, and then choose to ignore it on my own. After all, I don't think anyone really knows your ignoring them, unless you tell them. Good grief, whats happening to the page layout!! Okay, it seems to be fixed now. +reveritt Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 The biggest problem with being a troll is all the waiting under the bridge. Are you also ignored in return? Or if there a problem with said cache and you recieve an E-mail telling you what the problem is, will that also be ignored? Shirley~ Quote

2oldfarts (the rockhounders) Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Thank you Quiggle, I will be sure to not ingnore your posts now, as you are very helpful. (I was just teasing - but, I guess someone might have thought that they could place an ignore on their "Doc's"). This has been a fun thread...in all honesty, I feel that the 'ignore' feature might be not used all that much. Oh, wait - there is that one person....maybe... Shirley~ Quote
+ParrotRobAndCeCe Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 It is quite likely that I simply cannot be ignored. Don't worry, there are web site content filters that can take care of that, no problem. Quote
+Ed Rad Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 The ignore feature works well but you still see the avatar so you know that that person posted something. Then it temps you with the link to view that post. I would have thought if you are ignoring a person then you wouldn't see anything, like they don't exist. The other thing I noticed is if another person quotes your ignored person, you will see their post in their quotes. So it's really not a true ignore, more like a (place fingers in ears and yell) "NANANANANANANA I'm not listening to you" thing. Quote
+Renegade Knight Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 I don't use it. There's noone whose opinion I hate enough to use it.... Ditto, there are a few people who's opinion is always on the other side of mine, but that makes for dicussion not a Bozo Bin Award Recipient Winner. Anyone else worthy would not last long enough to use it. Now if I showed up in someone elses Bozo Bin, that would just be cool. Quote

bug and snake Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 If everyone puts everyone else on 'ignore' is it true that the entire forum goes into a sort of an ever decreasing spin cycle until it eventually vanishes up...... well, you know what I mean. Or not. ??? Quote
