+The Bolas Heathens Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 We're rapidly approaching the 100th cache and would like something a bit special for the 100th. Has anyone any suggestions in the north Shropshire / south Cheshire / South Staffs area? Quote

Has anyone any suggestions in the north Shropshire / south Cheshire / South Staffs area? Best cache I have done is Kipling Cache This is certainly an adventure and is well worth every minute of it's hard earned time spent doing it. Only 4 people have ever completed this in the Year and a half it has been live! Moote Quote
+The Bolas Heathens Posted February 4, 2006 Author Posted February 4, 2006 Would it be ok for a 7 year old as he always comes with me when caching? +rutson Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 I think Kipling would be a bit much for a 7yo, Quote
+Moote Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 Well I was mountaineering at around 7 yrs old and I certainly liked that adventure; I guess that is is knowing the limits of a person. Few cachers dare try this cache just reading the description puts them off. But to me it was another day on a hill, not a normal hill I admit, this is on a high Pennine moor being there dictates that you use all your skills and it is worth having a good guide available. Now I can be a guide I'm happy with that, but would the 7 yr old be up for a 11 mile hike? Moote Quote

Izzy and the Lizard King Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 Our favourite to date is "Every which-way" GCQMVD We really felt a sense of achievement when we completed it. It is a toughie though, and several finders took a couple of visits to complete it Quote
+The Bolas Heathens Posted February 5, 2006 Author Posted February 5, 2006 (edited) That sounds like a really fun one. We were just talking to Snerdbe who we met doing a local cache and I'm pretty sure this is one of the ones he was talking about. Thanks for the suggestion. +wildlifewriter Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 (edited) We're rapidly approaching the 100th cache and would like something a bit special for the 100th. There's an unwritten tradition in geocaching that bringing up a landmark find (100,200, etc) at a particular cache, is a compliment to the cache owner. If there's someone in your area who placed caches that you really enjoyed doing - or who has (say) made some special contribution to the hobby - why not seek out one of their caches, and make a point of logging it as your 100th? Just an idea... -Wlw Edited February 5, 2006 by wildlifewriter Quote
markandlynn Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 Locally its worth the trip to do cut down cache or finishing the fables myths and legends series. A bit farther afield jonahs journey is excellent and can be done by a six year old with adult help. Youve got the obvious alchemy quest gold and the zodiac series as well. The GUK top rated caches are a help with this sort of thing. Just please dont surprise your other half like i did. Quote
+Moote Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 As a caver of many years I would not recommend Jonahs Journey as it is next to impossible to protect a second person from the 30ft fall. If this was a cave and I was still an instructor I would have a static line in place and also a lifeline. Personally I take the risk without, but if someone else is involved who is a child of 7 I think safeguards are important. I would say that this cache gets it's 5/5 rating because of the inherent dangers involved, compared to Kipling which I mentioned earlier, the difference in danger is that this is a place where one slip and out of the bottom you could fall! Nediam Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 You could try Stencil Stash. You'll need to visit 3 other caches first to find the 3 TB's needed (don't know where they currently are), But it's a good cache with a great sense of achievement when you finish it Quote
+mongoose39uk Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 Cut down Cache just because it is something very different. It can also be very easy or very hard depending on how lucky you get Quote

+The Bolas Heathens Posted February 6, 2006 Author Posted February 6, 2006 Looks like a great cache - I think we may well go for it. Without giving anything away, do we need any specialised equipment e.g. torches? Feel free to email the reply - johnrooke at gmail dot com. Cut down Cache just because it is something very different. It can also be very easy or very hard depending on how lucky you get Looks like a good one and the TB's are not too far away to get...apart from one which is still listed at the Chester Bash so not sure how I retrieve that. We've done the Alchemy Quest series (Gold was our 50th cache) but the Zodiac one is on our to-do list as they are about the nearest unfound ones to home now. Looks good. +bargee Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 Ogo's hole fables myths and legends is one of my favourites, on the (literally) welsh shropshire border. but the zodiac series is a superb days caching, well worth it. and well done on your circuit of manchester Quote
+The Bongtwashes Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 Could always make sure your Instant Notifications are set up properly, and get to a FTF before Snerdbe or Izzy and the Lizard King (sorry sis!) Quote
