showmestate Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 While walking to another cache, my son found a cache GC7802. The last entry was Aug 04. The query said for premium member only. However it looks abandoned. Could someone look it up for me and see if there are more recent logs and the status. Quote

+Team Tigger International Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 You could very well have looked it up .... but we did and found that the cache was archived in Sept of 2004. Star Quote

magellan315 Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 If you can remember where you found it, go back and remove it. If its been archived its just litter now. Quote

+Googling Hrpty Hrrs Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 pulling cache? Doesn't that entail actually going and "pulling" the physical cache? Sounds like a case of geo-litter. Quote
+Sue Gremlin Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 So with the search function broken, I am happy to see a thread already started on a similar subject to the question I have. We found a cache yesterday that had been in bad shape for a long time. I wrote to the owner, who tells me he doesn't have the time for it anymore, and wants us to adopt it. We went back today and replaced the cache. So, now that it's done, how do we formally adopt this cache? (GCK6BW) Quote
+Sue Gremlin Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 Nevermind, I found the right information. Quote

But what if it was re-listed on an alternative caching site? And the owner just didn't change the label? Just a thought...before you pull someone's else's stuff out of the woods...especially considering the owner is still active in the game. Quote

Since it hasn't been logged since August, 2004 I seriously doubt it is active anywhere, but he can always send the owner a message if he wants. Quote

+budd-rdc Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 Did you take photos of where you found it, the container, log book, or the contents? You can use them to compare notes with the owner (who's still active) or the previous finders. You might even be able to post a find legitimately. You should contact CCCooperAgency who is the owner of the listing to see what you should do next. (Note: the listing is a Members Only cache, so those who wish to view it will leave an audit trail) Quote
+Packanack Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 archive This is usually seen when you own a cache. Archiving is basically deleting your cache from the listings on the web site. This usually occurs when you are not going to replace a cache after it has been removed. You can temporarily disable it as the cache owner if you plan to activate it again within a month. after it has been removed. From Geocaching.com Quote

+welch Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 But what if it was re-listed on an alternative caching site? And the owner just didn't change the label? Always possiable, but a quick check of Navicache and the T place doesn't show anything there. I agree with magellan315, go retrieve the container. Then shoot the owner an email asking if they want the logbook/etc or should you just pitch it all. Quote

She should be banned from the website CCC archived a bunch of caches about a year ago and enlisted many other local cachers to help clean up the litter. Perhaps there was a missed communications on this one. I'm sure it was not left behind intentionally. Quote
+Renegade Knight Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 (edited) pulling cache? Doesn't that entail actually going and "pulling" the physical cache? Sounds like a case of geo-litter. Given time. Yes. IF you archive a bunch it can take time to make the rounds. I'd email the owner and ask them. Odds are they would let the OP pull it and keep the container for re-use. This is backwards of some other posts, but it works either way as long as the owner is contacted. (I prefer contact first so the owner has first option).
