Zzyzx Road Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 I mentioned this before, just because I have a few really great cachers in the area and I like to see what they have just listed. I get the new notification, and there were quite a few over the last week or so. But unless I go to each one on the PC and look it up, I can't tell whose cache it is. Another few people responded that that would be a great little extra for them also - they get the email notifications via cell phone, and a cache by "that certain person" would be more desirable to jump on. It is probably not a large enough idea for most here, but I thought I would stick it out there again. We get a lot of info about the new caches in the email notifications, but the cache owner's ID would be nice too.
DocDiTTo Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 I also mentioned this here too, a couple weeks ago. The name of the reviewer who approved the cache is listed in the email, but not the name of the hider. The hider would be much more beneficial to know. So yes, I'll second this. Maybe if enough of these duplicate threads keep popping up TPTB will add it to their to do list.
Lil Devil Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 Heck, just give me the GC# in the email and I'd be happy.
Zzyzx Road Posted January 30, 2006 Author Posted January 30, 2006 Well, I have a local individual who is a 6-degree friend in a way...so I am always looking for his new ones to do first. There were about 15 or so new caches in the last week and I had no idea which of these were (if any) his, until I went online (dialup...dagnabbit! Takes 4EVER!!!) to see what he has done. For those who can read the emails on the cells but not the actual website...again...this could be an advantage. I am in an area where there is great distance between towns and people, so knowing this bit of info could assist in a FTF for me!
Thorny1 Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 I think this is a great idea - I don't need the name of the approver in the notification - but I would really appreciate the name of the cache owner. Maybe there is a reason for having the approvers name in it - if so give us both, please Thanks! T1
Chance Encounter Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 I've often thought it would be nice to see the name of the hider in the email. Count me in!
The Leprechauns Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 The instant notification system takes advantage of the same coding that's already in place for watchlist notifications, bookmark notifications, owner notifications, etc. For all of those, we get the type of log (found it, wrote a note, didn't find it, etc.), the name of the person making the log, the name of the cache, and links to the log and the cache. Similarly, for instant notifications we get the type of log (i.e., "published"), the name of the person making the log (i.e., the reviewer), etc. So to this non-programmer, the "tiny feature request" may in fact not be quite so tiny. Would the addition of the owner name, the GC number or other information adversely affect site performance as this information is gathered and mooshed together into the automatic e-mail? And if so, can "published" logs contain the extra information, so that they don't follow the same script as other watchlist/bookmark notifications?
Zzyzx Road Posted January 31, 2006 Author Posted January 31, 2006 Actually my reference to "tiny feature request" was more along the lines that I thought few would care about the idea. Since few have responded to it, I was right. I guessed it would be some kind of programming snarl, and I DON'T take that lightly, trust me. But like Thorny1 mentioned, I don't really need the reviewer's name, but the owner's name would be nice. Still, it is just a thought...
shunra Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 Same thought here. Cache owner's name is useful, whereas the reviewer's name (1) is usually the same in an area, and (2) is not.
Miragee Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 This morning I got seven notifications, all with the Reviewers name. Six of the caches were by one cacher, the other by a different cacher. It would have been nice to see the cache owner's name at a glance. This sure seems like a good idea. I hope it isn't hard to implement.
Thrak Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 Actually I think a lot of folks would like this. Most folks don't frequent the forums though.........
Pablo Mac Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 Count me in as one who sees value in this feature recommendation. There are a small number of cachers in my region who consistently place top-notch caches, and I would love the ability to zero in on their new caches at the moment my email arrives to go for an FTF. On the same token, there are a number of cachers who consistently place lame caches, some to the point that I never want to waste a thought on their new ones, so an "Ignore This Cacher" feature would be handy, too.
CO Admin Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 Same thought here. Cache owner's name is useful, whereas the reviewer's name (1) is usually the same in an area, and (2) is not. It is to my mother, she gets to see her son's name every week in the email!
Pablo Mac Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 It is to my mother, she gets to see her son's name every week in the email! ...and she says, "Cute avatar, son!"
