Considering that there are only 14 caches within 20 miles of my zip code, a new cache is big news. It's been close to a week since I last checked my local area for new caches. I happened to check today and lo and behold, there was new cache. Not only that, but its a 3/3 and hasn't been logged yet. Wheee Hooo!

Premium members can sign up for automatic email notification when new caches are published. I have found this to be an even easier way to find out about 'em.

Automatic email notification is a must if you're going to be the FTF.

Sadly there is a flaw in the e-mail notifications...if a cache is listed as being up out on x date but due to different issues with getting it approved it might not go online for another week or so. This happened with 2 new caches in my area. I never received e-mail notifications for them like I have others.

I did it. I think it was my 23rd find. It was mostly due to dumb luck and a pretty remote cache- either that, or a sign from God that I have a gift. The DNF a few hours later ruled out the latter.

It is also a GREAT way to find out if caches have been archived or are down for maintenance for some reason. I almost went up the steepest hill in our neighborhood to find a cache and found it was taken off the hill because it had been leaking...I am SOOOO happy I checked the internet that day!!
