+darus67
I've been working on creating a sig item to leave in caches I find, but I'm having a hard time coming up with anything interesting. The problem is that my geocaching handle doesn't MEAN anything that I can represent in iconic form. This afternoon I thought of a completely different handle that has meaning, is significant to me AND is available! But is it really worth chaning my handle just for a silly sig item? +StarBrand
Only you can answer that. Any name will look good on a cool sig item. Quote Link to comment
BRTango
I feel your pain... I went back and forth on my handle for months: 1) HakoTheWolf 2) Hounds of Meur 3) Hako The Wolf 4) Hakosdad 5) Wolfies-r-us and finally settled on BRTango. Thankfully I haven't been around long enough for anyone to know who I am, and the name change thing is completely seemless. I say if you found a handle you like better, especially if it has meaning for you, then go for it. Quote Link to comment

Myself, I just used a 'handle' I've been using here and there for twenty years. I'll just write/engrave/stamp/whatever my name on whatever I finally set on for a sig item. Quote Link to comment
+Team Maccabee
Since the new name is significant to you and and haven't found or hidden too many caches, and you like the sig item, of course, go for it! I changed my name very early on and haven't regretted it. The avatar came later and the sig item is just about to come out, but they both relate directly to my name... So, what is it? +Moose Mob
Only you can answer that. Any name will look good on a cool sig item. I want to emphasize Starbrand's view. You need to do what's right for you. Quote Link to comment
+fishingdude720
how about "darus67, taking the dare for any cache". Thats all i ould think of. I used "fishing out caches one at a time". Quote Link to comment
+VO2WW
As the pages are opened up after you change your name they will update. Of course you can open them all as soon as you change your name and your old name will disapear. I use my Ham radio call sign on my sig items, mostly silver dollars, just stamp it on as needed. You can also get outdated trade dollars for little or nothing from groups who have them made up when they outdate and sometimes from banks. Quote Link to comment
+Confucius' Cat
In case you didn't know, you can change your name anytime without affecting your stats. As another said the site changes your name on all your old logs and posts as the pages are regenerated. You have nothing to lose except a moniker you don't like. Quote Link to comment
+Moose Mob
And you should do it soon before you end up well known, and then have to change thiers because it's commercial, like MOPAR Quote Link to comment
+darus67
Well, I've talked myself out of changing my geocaching login. I've been using the handle "darus" and variations on it for 15 or 16 years now on the internet and on dialup systems before that, so I have some attachment to it. Instead I created an avatar and changed my forum title to reflect the theme I came up with. The airplane in my avatar is a North American P51D "Mustang", a WWII long range fighter. I've long been of the opinion that the P51 is one of the most beautiful aircraft of its era. I would give up my left.... uhh.. anyway, it would be worth an awful lot to me for the opportunity to fly one. In reality, it is so far out of my reach that it can only be a dream, hence the Mustang Dreamin' title. Now to work the Mustang into my sig item. Quote Link to comment
+Bluejaytoo
"P51, Cadillac of the sky!" Have you seen Empire of the Sun? If not, I highly recommend it! I've been tempted to change my handle lately. The "Bluejay" thing has been with me since the early days of the interweb, so when I got into geocaching, it just seemed natural to continue it. But since then I've wanted to change it to something more whimsical, relating to the ferrets I keep around the house (and have since 1979). My sig item is a pack of 3-D postcards with 3-D glasses, so neither handle would really relate to that. My girlfriend is deadset against me changing my handle, because all her log entries mention finding the cache with Bluejaytoo. If I change my handle, everyone will think she has an imaginary friend. So I've decided to stick with it, and soon you'll be seeing a goofy picture of a bluejay wearing 3-D glasses as my avatar. Quote Link to comment
+darus67
I saw "Empire of the Sun" in the theater when it came out. You could always try making your own 3D pictures to use as your sig item. http://features.engadget.com/2004/08/24/ho...ake-3-d-photos/ Quote Link to comment

Right now they are from this series. I also photograph the scenic caches I visit in 3-D, so those who pick up my glasses in the cache can see them. My next series will probably feature the abandoned iron furnaces in my area, some of which are cache sites themselves. Quote Link to comment
