Lmga Has A New Home!

You'll probably start seeing the new LMGA logo (designed by Mr. King) popping up on caches in the area. Hopefully this will attract more members. The more the merrier.

In the next week or so, we'll be starting up an LMGA members-only moving (traveling) cache. This will be administered from the LMGA website (since geocaching.com no longer allows moving caches). There'll likely only be the one moving cache, something for local LMGA members to have fun with when they're near.

For those that want to support the LMGA by including a link and an invitation to the new organization on their cache pages, just copy-paste the following code:

<center><table WIDTH="40%" border="0" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="2" BGCOLOR="#FFFFFF" align="center"><tr><td valign="middle" align="center" width="30"><a href="http://lmga.net" target="_blank"><img src="http://lmga.net/e107_images/logo_lmgalink.jpg" target="_blank" border="0" alt="LMGA"></a></td></tr><tr><td valign="middle" align="center" width="30%"><font face="Verdana" size="2" color="#000000"><b>If you are a Geocacher in the Lower Mainland, please join us. The LMGA is your gateway to caching in and around the lower mainland.</B></font></td></tr></table></center><br>

If you want to know what it will look like, check out the following cache listing.

The site participation is starting to pick up. 20+ new members in the last few days.

If you've been refraining from joining because I had moderator privileges ... you can put your mind at rest. I was simply helping out the gentleman that bought the domain and set up the software. I have since removed all my moderation privileges. So don't worry, you'll not be under my evil yoke of doom. :(

Anyhow ... stop on by. BCGeocacher is trying to create something useful and fantastic for the community. So come by and give him your support!

Hey Dogbreath,

Not many comments from others on the new site. I stopped by a couple of times, but have not joined. Looks like everyone has done a lot of work on it. The site looks good. I am sure you will get lots of people signing up.

I don't think anyone is afraid of over moderation, from you or TLG. The concern that I have (and that others might have) is more on lack of moderation. Or more precisely personal attacks, and a general unfriendly atmosphere. Not that I have seen any of that on the LMGA site, although I have never visited the 'old' LMGA site. I did enjoy the forums at BCGA. At the BCGA meeting last year, I was probably the only one who didn't vote for taking the forums down (although I didn't vote against taking them down either).

BCGA has been strangely quiet. I guess I will just have to wait to see if I will decide to become a member of LMGA. Anyways, Kodos on the new site...

Well, there won't be undermoderation, from what I understand, CoC. BCGeocacher is anxious not to repeat the debacle that the BCGA forums went through, before they were removed.

There are 45 members already, and unique content on the forums from half of them. BCGeocacher is quite pleased with the response so far. It's been a very pleasant atmosphere for discussion. Everyone is still feeling their way around the moderation issues, but things are smoothing out. (I am not a forum moderator, though, those duties are left to BCGeocacher, MrKing, LMGAAdmin, and SouthSurreyScavengers).

As for joining the LMGA. All it takes is a sign up. There are no fees. You can certainly pay to join the BCGA and still sign up for the LMGA. It's not an either/or situation, really. We've even posted BCGA news on the LMGA site, such as the promotion of a new director and their upcoming meet n' greet event.

By all means stop on by CoC. The LMGA will hopefully represent cachers in the Lower Mainland and do it in a family friendly way. I was volunteered to help forum moderate and I will do my best keep my small part of the forums a nice place to discuss issues.

DBC, you were a big help in setting up the site and you should be thanked for that. It's unfortunate that you had to remove yourself because of past history. You did nothing but help the LMGA get started and that's much appreciated. Hopefully you will remain as a member and continue to contribute. But don't give me any trouble in the Polls Forum or I will have to moderate you.

Living in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia? Want to know what's going on in your local geocaching community? Come visit and sign on with the LMGA (http://www.lmga.net). We're the only geocaching organization in the lower mainland is free. Even our forums are free (unlike other local area organizations which will charge you to use their services).

The LMGA is tentatively planning a CITO event for March.

Know what a moving cache is? No? Check out the LMGA moving cache. Try to grab it if you can, and move it somewhere else of your choosing.

We're 55 members are growing. BC's newest and fastest growing geocaching organization.

50 Members in a little over a week, you guys rock.

I think there may have been a need and I think you have identified that need.

Congratulations to the LMGA.

Have you tried to list that moving cache as a Terracache or a Navicache, that would make it more accessible to all geocachers. I know this listing service won't list it but I bet other services might. There are a couple of moving caches in Calgary that were grandfathered into this listing service and they are really popular so I know geocachers like them, Stash n Dash has over 50 watchers, that is a lot for Calgary.
