We only had 8 adults and 6 kids present, but we gathered a lot of trash. We're actually having another Cito here in April to finish the job. +wavector Posted March 26, 2006 Share Posted March 26, 2006 (edited) Heavy Lift was the first Geocaching CITO ever held in our city and we managed a superhuman task. Our CITO received permission from every level of governement. It was a vital and extremely difficult project in a city waterway, Seven Persons Creek. This CITO event was industrial strength and we really had some great results. There are a lot of pictures in the logs and there will be more. We have hauled 725kgs (3/4 ton) of trash to the dump so far and that total will go much higher. Our efforts have made a big difference. The large beam you see in the picture "Heart of the Obstruction" is likely 200kgs (450lbs), it took all of us to lift it out of the creek. This Heavy Lift CITO really lived up to it's name. We had twenty attendees which was awesome -- given that there was a thunderstorm the previous night and it was still raining this morning! We hit two spots on the Gorges State Park -- NC's newest state park. They have very tough restrictions on caches so we are trying to build up some goodwill. +Goldfinch593 Posted April 23, 2006 Share Posted April 23, 2006 Hinds Lane Conservation property CITO in Pelham, NH: My first CITO event! What a satisfying way to spend Earth Day! It was shocking, however, to see the amount of trash, rusted metal, discarded tires and abandoned cars that have been recklessly dumped here, along these beautiful trails, over the years. Good for the Town of Pelham for preserving Hinds Lane Conservation Property for recreational use. And thanks to the Land Stewardship Committee for organizing this event. It will take many more CITO events, volunteers and some heavy equipment to remove all of the trash here, but I think we made some great progress today! Hard-working CITO'ers! More hard-working CITO'ers! Should be a BIG SIGN - POSTED NO TRASH! As Waldo's Revenge said in his CITO log, "Who knew cleaning up trash could be so much fun!" +koneko Posted April 24, 2006 Share Posted April 24, 2006 Nickerson State Park CITO according to EVERY weather report for the past week, it was supposed to pour yesterday. Mother Nature was kind enough to hold that back until AFTER the event we had 14 cachers show up (adults + kids) and had a great time doing trail maintenance and picking up what trash we could find. diapers, old grills, old skateboards, tires, LOTS of beer cans and of course, the cement blocks I always seem to find! Between the Boy Scouts and the cachers, about 60 people showed up to clean up Doe Branch Park on Lewisville Lake. We had great weather, tasty hot dogs, games, drawings, and plenty of caches. The park rangers on site from the US Army Corps of Engineers said it's the cleanest they have ever seen the park. Outstanding job, Texas cachers! Thank you so much! Hope everyone got to see the news on Saturday evening as Channel 4 did a nice job of putting out a little story on the event. We managed to fill up two huge dumpsters (we estimated at 50-60 cubic yards) with trash of all kinds, remove 3 (and a 1/4 of one) old rusty vehicles from the arroyo and get a dozen or so old appliances taken away. The area surrounding Universe and Calabasitas looks amazingly improved. I hope next time to have more geocachers out there so keep an eye open on here and I'll see where I'd like to go next. Lots of Kama'aina (locals) and visitors from the mainland as well. Met some great folks and "talk story" about our latest adventures out around the island. Everyone pitched in for the CITO and collected some serious junk strewn on the nearby beach and park. In addition to removing much trash, we were actually able to salvage several picnic tables and repair them for continued use. More photos on the event page. Quote Link to comment

+Spoon! Posted August 2, 2006 Share Posted August 2, 2006 We had a "Small-scale See-toe" here in Northeastern Pennsylvania on July 29. The area chosen is called the Seven Tubs Recreation area, and has some spectacular tubs and falls carved by glacial action a LOOOONG time ago! About 25 people showed up, and we concentrated on the litter left behind by those who like to swim here in the hot weather. Here is a link to the cache page: GCWV19.
