+Happy Humphrey Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 Someone has proposed 5* caches as a category - but I think that geocaches are not allowed to be waypoints as well. Back to the main topic, from some of the postings it appears that many people here haven't understood the principle of Waymarking, and are expecting to just look for waymarks around a location and log them (a la virtual cache). Which is possible with some types, but isn't the main focus (as I see it). I guess that when the site is fully up and running there will be more interest - perhaps not from diehard geocachers though! Deego Posted January 12, 2006 Author Posted January 12, 2006 I am happy to try "most" things once. Maybe HH is correct, as that was the way I was looking at it. Quote

It'd be interesting to find out how many people have signed up with Waymarking.com that haven't heard about it via Geocaching. Quote
The Royles Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 It'd be interesting to find out how many people have signed up with Waymarking.com that haven't heard about it via Geocaching. As far as I understand it, it is only available through geocaching at the moment. It has not even been publicised to the general geocaching masses yet, only via the forums. Given that, the interest and level of use is actually quite good. Quote
+The Hokesters Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 Imagine the glut of rubbish things to visit once Joe Public gets his hands on it! This thread is really turning me into a grumpy old man and I am only 34! Quote
+flipflopnick Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 Took a look at the site, didn't like it, didn't create an account, won't be bothering. Ermm ... you already have an account as its Groundspeak, and WM uses your GC login. ooops sounds like I know what I'm doing from experience! Too young to know what a locationless cache was ;-( Quote
+Happy Humphrey Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 Despite the constant wet weather (this must have been the wettest spring ever!), I've managed to add 9 waymarks to the Isle of Man (I added them "locationless" style, i.e. new waymarks within an existing category). So these are now loggable ("virtual cache" style, i.e. log a waymark) - which might be of interest to those attending the IOM meet at the end of July. If you don't do Waymarking, that's no problem either: there's no obligation to take an interest . Here's the list I'll try and add a few more soon. HH Quote
+freespirit1402 Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 I wonder if loads of letterboxing people visited GC.com in the old days and thought "Huh, not much going on here" Now geocaching and letterboxing exist in almost parallel worlds with hardly any crossover. In 5 years I wonder if there will be a bunch of waymarkers running around with GPS, who don't understand why geocachers enjoy their game and think letter boxers are just plain wierd. And then there are trigpointers who are treated as amusing eccentrics, people who log milestones and... I was going to put "etc etc" to make it seem like the list was endless but maybe it ended. Ah - Munro Baggers, Marilyn Baggers, county highpoint baggers. Are we moving from being the "newest game on the block" to, um, can't think of a metaphor, SP'll help I'm sure. amusing eccentrics....cool, i always wanted to be an eccentric and now ive found a way with my two bagged trigs Quote
