In Indiana, these two caches have probably the funniest DNF entries, they are both five star caches,Total Insanity and Shelter II.

Total Insanity was planted September 17th and HAS NOT been found.

Shelter II was finally found, there are over 400 posts for Shelter II, look up Shelter II in the Midwest forums for links to the Shelter II videos. No kidding Poppagoth made 2 videos of the mayhem caused by Shelter II.

Today I was looking at a cache page and saw a pretty funny DNF log:

GCKPCR

Check out the November 5, 2005 log by Team Teuton :D

I like the "dead rooster down by the river" part, there is a blues song in there somewhere.

BTW I wonder if the cache IS still there? Kind of unusual to hve 2 subsequent DNF's on a one star.

I will be heading down that way in a week or so and I plan on looking for it. I'd be willing to bet it's probably covered by the rocks now and folks don't want to move them to try and find the cache.

I love writing and reading DNF logs, because they're way more interesting than a simple "found it, TNLN, TFTC" log.

Earlier this week, we tried and failed to find a night cache, then we wandered our way over to a traditional cache that looked pretty easy. A nice way to get our mojo back.

At ground zero, there was a big tree with an opening at the bottom. A classic hiding spot, and it matched the hint. Time to search and score the find! I shined my flashlight into the roots of the tree, and discovered that I was staring straight into the eyes of an opossum. We had never encountered a live cache guard before. We returned the next morning and easily found the cache. See our logs here. :anitongue:

A few geocachers in Oregon know about my adventures of September 14-15, 2006. The snow should all be melted by now in the area of "Cougar Rock" (GCP4B4). If you go there I suggest something with a higher clearance than a Honda Civic. I now have a 4WD pickup to go some of the places I should not have taken the car :anibad: .

From Oh, the Places You'll Go!

March 6 by GeekGirl (641 found)

Oh, the places I went

To try for a smiley

My readiness for this

I rated too highly

Vines grabbed at my legs

Goo pulled at my shoes

I was poked in the eye

Enough paying of dues!

I've done this before

I've got nothing to prove

But I can't not keep going!

So ahead I still moved

I was wet to my knees

The quagmire was stinking

Why did I keep going?

What the heck was I thinking?

I slogged through the swamp

Through the mud and the muck

One hundred more feet

Oh no, I'm still stuck

Then bleeding and dirty

I had to admit

Darkness was coming

It was high time I quit

Some day I'll be back

With boots and hip waders

And a big pointy stick

In case there are gators

I'll aim for this cache

In the daytime I'll go

It'll be worth it because

It's not a micro!

This is a log I posted for a DNF on He'sDeadJim's wonderful night cache "The Dark is Rising" - GCVEJ7.

Sir! A report from the field!

I made a valiant effort to locate your cache and record my name. However, I was regrettably under the curse of the evil Sith lord, Twinstars, and found myself on the WRONG SIDE OF THE CREEK (again!) with no bridge in sight. Night was looming, and the stormtrooper blaster bolts were getting uncomfortably close. Not realizing that darkness was my ally in this case, I opted for a strategic retreat, vowing to return soon.

Logs are treacherous minions of the Dark Side as well. There was a particularly evil one lying in the woods, hidden in the undergrowth. You'll be happy to know that I righteously smote it with the force of my body as I fell, and smashed it into several pieces. It is no more. I limped off into a stunning sunset to toast my victory with a Diet Coke and attend to my war wounds.

Dammit, Jim, I'm a webmaster, not an battering ram!

Everything was rising tonight. The dark, the full moon, our curiosity, and most importantly, our level of insanity. Ventured out again with Paintball Guy and daughter, in a second effort to claim the cache, and victory was ours!

All it took was the right cache sheet, the right parking place, the right idea what to look for, the right path, the right reflectors, the right... well, you get the idea.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll go celebrate my victory with a hot soak and a cold beer. My feet haven't recovered yet from the first attempt - 2.5 hours of walking due to having the wrong path, the wrong set of reflectors, the wrong parking spot... well, you get the idea. Gotta say that both attempts were really fun! Great company on the trail, too. And I'm not even talking about the HUGE snake I saw.

Thanks, He'sDeadJim! But I'm still gonna murder you! :( Took a lighter from the cache, left two geodes... yep. Rocks. What else did you expect? :o

I had to DNF GCYRZB after the brakes in my car failed about 250m from the cache location ...which was about 45 miles from my home. It started snowing around that time, too. On the way back home, using what tiny bit of braking power remained + going slow on the local autobahn + downshifting a lot + using the e-brake ...I broke the e-brake. About 5 miles from home. It was really snowing then, too. I made it home after a few close-calls. Thankfully traffic was very light that evening.

Oh and if you're wondering: Yeah we do have insurance and yeah they would have towed the car, but not from where it broke down at. Once I was back in the city I figured I might as well drive it all the way home. I did have it towed to the mechanic, though.
