+rutson Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 As far as I can tell, the first cache in England was placed on 7/1/2001 Fringe of Epping Forest. Even if I'm wrong... The oldest active cache celebrates it's fifth birthday on the 14th View from Coombe Hill. Quote
Nediam Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Cool! nice to know I was out caching on "our" birthday (even if it was snowing! ) Does this mean we all get a card of TPTB? Quote
+Learned Gerbil Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 (edited) The first record of geocaching i nthe UK was here - England's First Only created for Admin purposes, but it is the earliest caching activity in the UK. Note that there is a brand new cache within a few hundered yards of this point. [Edited to remove the "http" GC.com decided I needed!" Edited January 7, 2006 by Learned Gerbil Quote
+Bill D (wwh) Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 (edited) LG, your link is broken - it's got http in it twice. Edit: Kitty Hawk typed faster! Edited January 7, 2006 by Bill D (wwh) Quote
Nediam Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Only created for Admin purposes, but it is the earliest caching activity in the UK. Looks like a fake holiday cache!.........................someone needs repremanding! Quote
+Haggis Hunter Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 We have of course missed The UK's and Scotland's First by a few weeks, it was it's 5th birthday on the 15th December, not only was it the first but is also the longest surviving cache in the UK. Quote
Deego Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 (edited) this list also states englands first 06/06/2000 . by stevetubaI. I have seen a profile by stevetuba (on another site) stating that he set the first UK geocache, but I cant find it now. I will look when I get home. Edited January 9, 2006 by Deego Quote
+rutson Posted January 9, 2006 Author Posted January 9, 2006 That was a test I'm pretty sure. I don't think a box ever exisited. Quote
+John Stead Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 (edited) ... The oldest active cache celebrates it's fifth birthday on the 14th View from Coombe Hill. I had not realized how early I was to register, my fifth anniversay of insanity in less than 3 weeks time - pity it took two months to find my first cache! And nearly 5 years to find Coombe Hill (last November)! Edited January 9, 2006 by John Stead Quote
+Learned Gerbil Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 The 6/6/2000 cache is the one I mentioned and if you go to stevetubel's profile you get taken to Jeremy's admin account. Quote
Deego Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 (edited) Yes, but Jeremy did not start this site till september 2000 see webarchive here so the UK cache was listed on GPS Stash Hunt by Mike Teague more info ? I have stevetuba email address, so I will contact him later tonight. Edited January 9, 2006 by Deego Quote
Deego Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 (edited) Photo ©Steve Tuba Well there was a box there I have had an email back from Steve. the full story can be found here its the last story on the page so scroll well down Edited January 9, 2006 by Deego Quote
+Learned Gerbil Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 Having visited the coordinates some time ago, I confess I believed the story there was no cache there - the thistles and nettles would certainly die back in winter exposing the site. So there wasa cache there - and it did get abandoned when it proved an inappropriate location. Shame, there are pleny of good locations in the area - fortunatly one now has a brand new cache. Quote
+purple_pineapple Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 it certainly has, which team p-p were first to find! Just felt the need to mention that folks, don't know why! Quote
+Chris n Maria Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 There is only one thing for it everyone should go out and do Englands First straight away. (Hope that dosn't count as advertising) Quote
