+ebcarp
When I was in Georgia, I used to leave a $1.00 scratch off lotto ticket. I felt like that was a good trade item. Relatively cheap unless you're doing a lot of caches in a little time. On my very first FTF, I got a geocaching hat with a red bow around it. I was tickled to death, you'd a thought I won the Price is Right or something. Any geocaching item w/the logo is good also. I have taken to leaving lightsticks in caches also. My personal feeling is to leave as well as you can afford, I think if the cache is hidden well enough, muggles shouldn't be a problem. Quote Link to comment
+Latitude 32
Dollar store is good. I have also bought a lot of trading items at www.orientaltrading.com. One of the items that I've been trading is a D-Ring/keychain with a compass attached. You can get 12 of them off of this site for around $10.00. It still is amazing to see how fast the quality of a caches contents degrade... Quote Link to comment
+Kit Fox
Here are a couple of pictures of the adult swag, that I use.Agent Fox Ummm... If I might ask... What is the small square item at the bottom center? I know I said "Adult Swag", but I remember something very close in size and packaging that I kept in my wallet while a teen. Just never knew they made them in cammo!! They are Military issue Trioxane Fuel tablets, great for emergencies. Quote Link to comment

+Porkchop61YD
I like to leave things that are particularly usefull to geocachers. I carry around a variety of stuff in the $1-2, $3-5, $5-10 range and for special trades $10-20 range. I always carry around several TB's of my own to trade for others. I also like to keep in mind that many cachers bring their families with them, so I carry around a few kid items. BUT all of the stuff is usually new and of good quality -no junk. And I don't spend a ton, I just pick up things on sale when I find them at Wallmart, the Dollar Store, etc. I like to keep the items small and realitively flat so I can eaisly pack them and take them with me when I travel. $1-2 Range Coleman Zipper Pull/Keychain Compass & Thermometer Pin-on Ball Compass Small Bison Containers Small Bison Survival Whistles Batteries Carabiners Mini-lights Bug Spray Camo Tape Magnetic Badge Backs (the good type that can be used to hold up a fairly large container -from K&J Magnetics) $3-5 Range Coleman Map Compass Large Bison Containers Bison Ball Containers (some of the best micros) Large Bison Survival Whistles (the end is also a micro container) Coins (military unit type) Patches Keychain Calculators Sunglass Hut Sunglass Visor Clips Sunglass Bags (you can put anything small in them like a GPSr and they are great for cleaning the screen) $5-10 Gift Cards (Lowes, Home Depot, Wallmart, etc.) Small Maglites Adventurine & Mother of Pearl Stretch Braclet Geocaching.com Lanyards Good brand name ear buds $10-20 Range Any cool small tool/electronic Leatherman Micros Motorola Talkabout Radios Pretty decent Sony, JVC or equivalent mini headphones Very small USB Hub Winchester Multi-tool (very good quality and for around $15) Packs of batteries Tiger Eye Stretch Bracelet Kid Stuff Scrunchies (not the generic type, but something with beds and bangles or college logo print) Funky beaded necklass kits (I especially like the ones that come with a frog bead that I find at the Hallmark stores) Magnets Giant Crazee Beans Small Beanie Babies Lurchin Urchin Yo-Yo Balls Super Balls Logo Rubber Stretch Bracelets Quote Link to comment
BEFIII
Responses to this topic remind me of an old Hardy Boys title, Mystery of the Chinese Junk. The typical American home probably contains enough of the stuff to keep an asian sweatshop running for 6 months. Do cashers want to be responsible for hiding boxes full of these items under rocks and in hollow trees across the countryside? I imagine that most cashers carry the equipment they need on the hunt with them, and aren't depending on finding a "sealed/new/never used" snake bite kit or emergency blanket in the cache to help them survive the hike back to the car. If I need a screwdriver set I'll go to the hardware store and buy one. Items that appeal to the inquisitive nature of geocachers, I think, are most appropriate. Maps, books, cd's, and items personalized by those who leave them would be great to find. Of course I like to see the nice things for the kids, and other items, but lets keep this sport about the thrill of the hunt - not stocking up on goods available at any dollar store. Oh and Criminal, whiskey would be fun, too! Edited January 14, 2006 by BEFIII Quote Link to comment
+Lighteye
BEFIII... you've missed the point, I believe I think we are all in agreement that it is indeed the thrill of the hunt, but in the event that you DO decide to perform a little bit of trading, please don't leave actual garbage. At least that was my understanding of this thread, and the sport in general. Trade if you like, but no toys that have recently been appropriated from the local landfill. I was at one today , and the box was approx 2 1/2' X1' X1'. It was great to see the nifty gifts being exchanged from complete strangers... I was left almost speechless at the thoughtfulness of some. And yes, I have been on almost all wilderness area hikes, and if you were on one, I am quite positive that the "sealed/new/never used" rain poncho would be a timely find and appreciated when the clouds started bursting overhead.
