+clearpath Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 For some reason, occasionally I like to think about unused Geocaching usernames. If you HAD to change your username for some reason, what would you pick as your new username. For simplicity sake, unless you see the name in the forums a lot, just assume your new name is available. I'll start ... ASCII File or Dotted Quad Quote
+New England n00b Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Inigo Montoyayoukilledmyfatherpreparetodie That'll fit, right? Quote
+StarBrand Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 WyoJeep I live in Nebraska but my heart (and some of my caches) belong in Wyoming. That and I love Jeeps. StarBrand is/was a Marvel Comics Character. Quote
+BlueDeuce Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 hmmmm. Let me think about that one. Quote
Hugh Jazz Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 I really wanted Hugh Jass, but some Hugh Jass already took it. Quote
+Cryptid Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 I already creatd a Secret identity, and may have to become him someday. So I need to keep it secret. Quote
+New England n00b Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 briansnat Actually, that one was up for sale a bit ago. If you ask teh current holder, (s)he might be willing to resell... Quote
+welch Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Maybe Lorax, but then I'd probably have to complain a lot more. or maybe something about being lost in the woods... But really I'm ok with my name and have no plans to change it. Quote
+BlueDeuce Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Lorax - Taken (and 17k variations!) WyoJeep - There's a Wyojeeper, you ok with that? Inigo Montoyayoukilledmyfatherpreparetodie - I'm getting that for my kids for Christmas Quote
+Ed Rad Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Well I have done it and here the story if you care to read. I think I would have to change it to... "The Fonz" AAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY ! Quote
+BlueDeuce Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 I've thought about going by Willie McCoy. Quote
+Markwell Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Sasquatch - but it looks like there's already 17 variations on the name being used. Quote

+Planet Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Change my name!?!?! You'll have to pry this name from my cold dead fingers. I had it for many, many years before caching ever was born! Quote
+gladeslvr & crew Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 "GRITS" 'cause that's what I am. Quote
+Stunod Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 I'd choose a cool Roman gladiator like Gluteus Maximus or Biggus...umm...errr....I think I'd use Gluteus Maximus Quote

+Jennifer&Dean Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 If I ever needed another name... I'd use my sockpuppet! Or try to get the name Jennifer since the original Jennifer never validated her membership or logged on again after setting up her account. (As a matter of fact, there is a decent chance I'm Jennifer and created that account by accident while trying to sign in once.) Quote
+Sue Gremlin Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Nicole Kidman. What? What are you all looking at? Quote
+Renegade Knight Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 (edited) Funny at the time RK was the other name. Because of this topic I had to check. The other name I'd use is not in use. So... I'll keep it as an option for someday later. Edited December 22, 2005 by Renegade Knight Quote

bruceprtr Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 How did you find out what names ARE in use? I've tried to search for the name I wanted when I came here, can't find it but I thought that was part of the "search problem" I'd read about. Quote

I've tried to search for the name I wanted when I came here, can't find it but I thought that was part of the "search problem" I'd read about. Go to Geocaching.com, to your account page, and on the right hand bar there is an Account options area. Click on Find another player. Or go to: find another player and type in the name or partial name you are looking for. If you find someone, you can choose it as though you are going to e-mail them, then from the e-mail page you can click on a view their profile link. -J edit- I wish wildcards worked for this search!!!!!!! I want to find everyone whose name starts with "Jen" but can't since there is a user named Jen. Edited December 22, 2005 by Jennifer&Dean Quote

+HaLiJuSaPa Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 When I was in college I didn't use my current handle, I used 7 Wishes. It was an album by Night Ranger that I particular like (I'm sure I'm dating myself now, but no I'm not that old :-)). I came up with my currently handle about 10 years ago. So that's what I'd use. I occasionally still use it in places where hairymon is taken (it actually is on occasion, such as email addresses on Yahoo.com.....7 Wishes (and "Seven WIshes" was taken there too so I gave up) :-) Quote

+BadAndy Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 The backup I would use is being held hostage by an unvalidated member that hasn't logged into the website in nearly 3 years. Geo. My name is George, and I often go by Geo. If a user doesn't validate his account in a reasonable period of time, that username should go back into the pool. Quote

+Harry Dolphin Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 I'll agree with Planet. I've been Harry Dolphin since BBS days. I suspect that more people know my by Harry Dolphin than by my real name. If I had to change it, I'd change it to Finley Dolphin. Most people think that my name is Harry! "Paul?!? I thought your name was Harry!" That wouldn't work as well as Finley Dolphin. Oh, well. Quote
Team Firebird Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 snappyh, like it was untill a few months ago. I have already changed it once, I just might change it again. I also have a secret identity. Ill tell you, but then I would have to kill you! Quote
+Airmapper Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 AIRMAPPER, I couldn't part with Airmapper. Only a computer program that tracks air pollution shares my name. (Google rocks!) Maybe Lowranger or Amper500. Might just have to get my one of those fall-back accounts. Quote
+Codfish116 Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 I would like to use POTUS, Just think of the perks: I'd have a private 747 to take caching all over the world. I could have the secret service seal off any newly listed cache area to guarantee I'd be the FTF, and Instead of loggong a DNF I'd have the FBI track down those evil micros! Not to mention the power of the "bully pulpit" to get my questionable caches aproved. And by executive order, I'd open national parks to caching! Quote

+Team Red Oak Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 Cool idea for a thread. If we had to pick names again and assuming we picked individual names and not a team name, my husband may choose Groo and I would be Arba, or Chakaal. Groo was a comic book character who traveled around wreaking havoc. But he didn't know it. www.groo.com Quote
