+wigoweb
This waymark would be in the business category. People would locate and post both pics and coordinates of large and small businesses which produce and market maple syrup. The Search for Tasty Maple Syrup http://www.mapleweekend.com Many of us enjoy maple syrup on our waffles and pancakes. Others use it on carrots. Some pour it on vanilla ice cream, too. If you live in the northeastern US, especially in New York or New England or in eastern Canada, you may have a favorite local spot where someone produces a local version. The flavor of the syrup may vary based on the technique of the person running the sugar house. Soil conditions and weather patterns can affect the flavor, too. A search on Google turned up references to maple sugar production in Michigan, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, Iowa, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Ohio, Illinois, and Indiana. There may be more states that we didn't locate. Some maple syrups are also produced in Norway and Korea, but they may be quite different in texture and flavor. Here is a link to some information: http://www.mapleweekend.com Our first entry, the Sugar Maple Research and Extension Field Station, is part of the Uihlein Forest in Lake Placid, NY. It is part of College of Agriculture and Life Science of Cornell University. Coordinates are: N 44 15.314 W 073 58.983 Link to comment
