ron75951
Anyone have any suggestions/opinions on the Garmin 18, which is just for laptops (or PDAs, etc) and the nRoute software that comes with it? Supposedly, it's just for road/highway travel. thanks ron Quote Link to comment
+RumJungle
If you are only going to use the Garmin software with the 18, then it should be OK. However, if you would like to use third party applications, I believe that the USB version of the 18 does NOT support the NMEA serial protocol. Applications would have to know the proprietary garmin protocol. Most third application talk NMEA. Quote Link to comment
+Breezeway
Do a google search for a utility called Franson GPSGate. It takes the Garmin data stream from a USB Garmin 18 and creates virtual com ports with the data converted to NMEA. I use it with programs like Streets and Trips. Never had a problem with it. They had a special running not too long ago. It cost $9USD. Quote Link to comment
