+Keith Watson Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 This is a call to all you cachers out there with snow shoes. A few of us are heading up to Bracebridge on December 29th to do some snow shoe caching. Who else wants to come? Quote
+Couparangus Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 I will take this under advisement. Quote
+dgas71 Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 There's a chance that I might be able to make it. Quote
danoshimano Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 Sorry, I'll be caching in my barefeet on Sanibel Island on that date. Oh well. Quote
+TOMTEC Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 I'm up for that... perhaps we could arrange a get-together at a local Pub in town for the evening... TOMTEC Quote
+northernpenguin Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 Naturally I'm going on this. Kitten on the Hunt is going to have to pass on this one though Quote
+Keith Watson Posted December 9, 2005 Author Posted December 9, 2005 I am going to set up a pub event for dinner. Anyone know of a good pub in Bracebridge? Quote

+Olar Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 Sounds good. I'll confirm soon. Are there any particular caches you have in mind Keith? Cheers, Olar Quote

+Keith Watson Posted December 9, 2005 Author Posted December 9, 2005 That looks like a good starting place. Then work out way South from there. Quote
+chris-mouse Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 I'm in! I've been looking for an excuse to get out the snowshoes :-) Quote
+Old Sailor Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 I'll think about you guys playing in the snow while I'm back on-shift for 28 days. I get to play in the ice doing buoys from Valleyfield to the Welland Canal. Christmas and New Years at work again. Quote
+Keith Watson Posted December 9, 2005 Author Posted December 9, 2005 Event has been approved. Snow Shoe Pub Quote
danoshimano Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 There is a pub... I can't remember the name, but I can describe it: It is up an alley off the main drag (Manitoba Street). The alley may be named the "something Mews", or something. It rises up to the south-west off the main street between Taylor Road and the start of Manitoba Street. At the back, there is an old brick building that is covered in vines in the summer (and leafless vines in the winter) with a Guiness sign hanging out. That is the only sign I can recall, but I am sure it has a name sign. Every time I go by there with my family I say "Hey! Let's go in here for a pint!" but I always get outvoted. There is a good chance it is the place you seek. Quote

I've been to that pub a few years ago when my wife's best friend owned a clothing store beside the pub. As I recall, the pub is just a small pub, but I could be wrong. Another couple locations are The purple pig which is along 118 and close to this cache (GCQ434) Beaver Bridge Surprise, the pub at Inn at the Falls or Fox & Hounds which is on Dominion Street Edited December 10, 2005 by dgas71 Quote
+northernpenguin Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 Keith -- we should put some info on the event page: - Planned snow-shoe caching spots before the event. - Carpooling options for non-driving but snow-shoeing cachers? - Perhaps the Toronto area drivers should go up in a convoy (ie - meet at 400N Timmy's at King City at 7AM) for safety purposes. This is a winter trip and 4 cars with FRS radios will be a safer travel option to get to Bracebridge). - We have 3 ham radio operators so far going up -- local ham repeater... Quote
+chris-mouse Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 Local ham repeaters: Bracebridge: 146.865 - VE3MRT Edgar (Barrie) : 145.190 - VE3TTB Orillia: 147.210+ VE3ORR (tone 156.7) Quote
+JDandDD Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 We live in the snowbelt and know how uncertain the weather is at that time of year (this time of year?). Just had 25cm in a snowsquall on Friday. You can't move far in them. Love the idea though but will have to make the decision when the weather forecasts start showing that date. JDandDD Quote
+rovers3 Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 Just thought you might like ans update. We did The Falls Tour North - Convergence II, Duck Chutes, and Snowshoe Up, yesterday and the snowshoeing was pretty good 8-12" of snow and another 8-12" fell last night. Found all three with little problem all in good shape, but may be harder as more snow falls. r&v Quote
+northernpenguin Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 Just want to thank Keith Watson and everyone that went for a great Snow Shoe cache event cache. Even if the Snow Shoes didn't come out as often as we'd hoped. The food was great and so was the fun on the trails. Here's my tracklog in Google Earth: Quote
bandgeek Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 Just curious- How do you do a tracklog in google earth? It looks... very cool. Quote
