Several years ago GAGB was asked to enable non-members to join our forums and therefore to post without becoming GAGB members. This was agreed and resulted in two databases, one recording GAGB membership and another recording forum membership.

The use of two databases has resulted in confusion (for example people don’t understand why they can’t vote as GAGB members even though they are forum members if they haven't joined both, and sometimes the incorrect status is shown in forums) and results in an ongoing maintenance overhead to keep records correct.

We are now considering moving back to a single database and therefore only allowing members to post in GAGB forums, although our General Forums would remain accessible for all to read. It is interesting to note that GAGB facebook group now has over 500 members and is a very active group. We now invite members to comment on this proposal and vote in this thread.

This poll will run for two weeks.

We recently polled our members on this subject and they voted 136-6 to move to a single database which has now been ratified by the committee. People who are currently Forum Members and not GAGB members (as shown in their forum title or in their profile) will have their accounts locked unless they change to GAGB members before the 1st June 2012. This can be done by contacting upgrade@gagb.org.uk People who do not become GAGB members will still be able to read our public forums as a guest and their previous posts will still be recorded.

Please can you tell me why the following was added to my event listing.

Event added to the GAGB Events calendar.

Also a reminder that the GAGB elections (www.gagb.org.uk) are coming up soon – you need to be a GAGB member before 1st October (or contact the webmaster if you were previously a forum user but didn’t upgrade to a full member earlier this year) and nominate/vote for the committee you want to support you.

I find it most uncouth and the hight of bad manners to hijack someone elses event listing just to promote your own cause, especially when I am not a member of GAGB, nor did I ask to be added to your event listing. Would it have hurt to have asked before hand if you could promote your cause on other people's listings, or even if they wishged to be included on your event calender.

Please remove this event from your calender.

As requested your event has been removed from the GAGB events calendar.

Apologies for upsetting you - most cachers are grateful that their are events are publicised to a wider audience. We will try to remember to exclude any future events of yours from the GAGB calendar - but I can only apolgise in advance if any slip through.

The committee have decided to use an online voting system (Surveymonkey) for this year’s election. Our returning officer uses Surveymonkey for geocachealaska! which enables a personal ballot to be sent to members’ email addresses, IP tracking, automatic counting and timed closure.

Each member should have received an email from Surveymonkey to their registered email address during the early hours of 1st November which includes a URL for voting once only. You can’t change your vote later.

If you haven’t received your ballet then please check your GAGB registered email address, your ISP spam filter and email client spam filter. If your email address is currently incorrect then please mail ladybugs@geocachealaska.org

Voting will close at midnight GMT on 6th November.

The GAGB will be 10 in June this year!

To celebrate we are planning a GAGB weekend on 1st and 2nd June – so please keep those dates free.

The Committee will be holding their own CITO events around the UK, but we would also like you to join in and are asking for as many of you as possible to organise and host a CITO event that weekend – let's cover the map with CITO icons! logo_cito_notext_50.gif

More information will appear in due course in the GAGB forums

Informed and lobbied? Ur definition appears different to mine.

It's not been on Facebook general geocaching page or regional ones til the last few days.

Informing and lobbying the scant few that visit the official gagb page doesn't really mean the same. Another rod for your own backs so that someone can be walter mitty again.
