+Airmapper
Anyone heard if Jeep is going to hold another contest? Red Jeeps? Blue Jeeps? Camo would be nice, or black, like Maguiver's. Quote Link to comment

+mcl143
I hope they either discontinue the contest, or just put jeeps out that aren't trackable. Non-TB jeeps would put the excitement back in the game and keep people from stealing them. This way they would be give-aways that would just show up in caches. Same prestige, but less bickering. Get rid of the contest and just put out a crap load of untrackable jeeps. It is basically a marketing stunt anyhow. Why do we need the contest? Quote Link to comment

I wonder if Jeep would make a forum or online poll to pick the color, that would be cool to watch. That is if they are going to keep on with the contest. Quote Link to comment

+RockyRaab
The problem, as I see it, is that those are simply the very best Jeep models I've ever seen. So they almost BEG to be stolen/kept. If they'd make them as larger aluminum tags, embossed with a picture of a jeep on one side and the tracking number, etc on the other, then they might actually travel. markandlynn
They should sell them through the shop so the "collectors" can buy one rather than stealing them for thier private collection. My vote goes to British Racing Green Quote Link to comment

If they'd make them as larger aluminum tags, embossed with a picture of a jeep on one side and the tracking number, etc on the other, then they might actually travel. That's a good idea. Maybe they could combine that idea with the current system: the TB could start out as a toy Jeep similar to this year's or last years, with the type of tag you describe. The Jeep itself could be kept by the first finder as a prize, and he just detaches the tag and sends it off alone for subsequent finders to log. That way the people who keep the Jeeps (and we know that they will) won't be thieves; they'll just be following the intended practice. And more people will at least get to find the tags and log them. edit: But I can see that some Jeep-keepers would want to keep the tag too... so maybe it could start out as a toy Jeep with two tags; the first finder gets to keep the Jeep with one tag still attached, and send the second tag out to be logged by others. +fishingdude720
I cannot seem to find any of these Jeeps so i don't rally know what they are like. If people want to keep them so much there should be a note on the tag saying you can buy them at Wal-mart for a dollar! I think it would be cool to have another contest for 2006. BLue or camo I would be voting for. Quote Link to comment

I agree, allowing Chysler to put on the contest and permiate the game with advertising always seemed to me to violate in spirit Geocaching's prohibition of publishing caches taht use the sport for solicitation (yes I know TB's aren't "caches"): "Commercial Caches / Caches that Solicit Commercial caches attempt to use the Geocaching.com web site cache reporting tool directly or indirectly (intentionally or non-intentionally) to solicit customers through a Geocaching.com listing. These are NOT permitted. Examples include for-profit locations that require an entrance fee, or locations that sell products or services. Solicitations are also off-limits. For example, caches perceived to be posted for religious, political, charitable or social agendas are not permitted. Geocaching is supposed to be a light, fun activity, not a platform for an agenda. Some exceptions can be made. In these rare situations, permission can be given by the Geocaching.com web site. However, permission should be asked first before posting. If you are in doubt, ask first." Many also think it is bad form to leave advertising or business cards as swag, I don't see why WJTB's are any different. However, I must admit I did get caught up in the whole thing of seeing how many Jeeps I could log just cause it was entertaining (I have logged a dozen so far), so yes I am a hypocrite, so sue me I guess what I am saying is if there are going to be rules, stick with them and don't water them down with excepetions or just throw the rules out. When you consider that Groundspeak is a company, Paying member only caches exist, and that premium members get more features. Geocaching is a commercial activity. I see no problem with the Jeeps promoting Chrysler, and if the Jeep's gotta go, so do the MOC caches. (Which I think are against the spirit of the game as well, but this is not the thread for that.) I have seen many people say they do not want them, but no one has said whether or not they think they will be back. Quote Link to comment

I have no problem with this. Since I am a kid I like the cool design of them. Maybe Jeep hooked Groundspeak up with somethin Wll anyway I don't seem what the problem is. It is not like they tell you to buy it. On the tag it doesn't even say anything about the contest. If they ban soliciting they would have removed the APE's (which I want to find). +welch
I've seen links for some contest called the mudds? http://wearethemudds.com/index.html but my browser doesn't seem to want and load the page As for the jeeps, I speculate they will return again, maybe as Red (hope not pink or orange). Jeep like the promotion, Groundspeak likes the promotion (and $$ probably). Personally I figure people are generally selfish and some will steal them if its a toy, a toy you can get at walmart, or just a tag by itself. Maybe they should only realease like 49 jeeps, one to every state. Then their might be enough peer pressure to NOT steal them. Of course you would also NEVER see them in actual caches, and only the those that finger every traveler at events will get the icons. Quote Link to comment

+nielsenc
I was luckly enough to find 3 Jeep Travel Bugs in Caches this year. I moved them so others could enjoy the jeeps and take part in the contest. When the other months came up, and I tried to find a jeep for the contest, I was unable. So for 2006, if the contest happens again, allow people just to buy the white jeeps online. Have enough to sell to people like myself who thought they were pretty cool and whose son wanted to keep one. I know they were forsale at Walmart and trust me, I went a few times looking but came up short. Put out 5000 jeeps and sell 5000 Jeeps on Groundspeak. Just an Idea. nielsenc. Quote Link to comment
