As i walk with a stick on the hillier caches, Mr Geoki has offered to get me a foretrex for christmas so that I have both hands free. Does anyone else use one? We already have an etrex and I wondered if there was much difference between the two? Sorry for my ignorance but i'm not a tech head! :)

Thanks in advance.

Jack Aubrey uses one and likes it a lot. We tend to end up in the same place when he's using his foretrex, and Im using my vista.

Send him an email and I'm sure he wont mind telling you what he thinks of it. In fact, I think there was a thread exactly about this in the technical section of Geofrees.

We have used one for almost 12 months and think it's great v.similar to the Etrex spec but as you say leaves your hand free for PDA compass notes and trade goods(must get a rucksack) The only limitation is you cant be 'On the phone' when avoiding muggles. if you do i looks like you are trying to get beamed up.

to me its weak under trees but as its our first Gpsr we can't compare

Hi, I have had a 101 for 8 months bought from ebay for £34, use 15 min quick charge batts in it. Have to say it's been great. Not only for caching but also for kayaking. Why do I need it kayaking I hear some say. Well sea fog gets a bit dense and I have found gps signals can see through it! Life saver? The extra strap is great as due to the size it gets in the way of cuffs, with the xtra strap you can put it over your top. All in all 8 out of 10 from me. cheers jeffers
