+Tsegi Mike and Desert Viking Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 The National Geodetic Survey, in cooperation with individual state professional surveying associations and other organizations, encouraged the setting of a commemorative geodetic control monuments at or near the computed location of each state's population center as determined by the 2000 U.S. Census Bureau census. These benchmarks are quite large, about the size of a manhole cover, and each one is individually marked with various logos. Given the uniqueness and commerative purpose, I propose this be a seperate benchmark category. Links for more info: http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/INFO/COP/ http://www.acsm.net/statecenters.html
