There are lots of good ones up there!

The last time I was in Big Bear, Miragee and I bushwhacked to the top of Gold Mountain while caching near Barb's house. When we got to the top we saw a Jeep with humongous tires. These tires had to be at least 40". Anyhow, we logged a geocache and the terracache that we were after. It wasn't that hard going up but we didn't want to go back down the way we came up. So we took the main trail down. It was steep in spots and we were walking very fast. Too fast as it turns out. About half way down, my right foot stepped on a slick rock with sand on it and immediately slid off. I went down so fast I barely had time to get my hand out to stop my face was smashing into the ground. I smashed my Palm Pilot which was in my left front pocket. I later developed a bruise on my thigh the exact rectangular shape of the Palm Pilot. During the fall I twisted and hurt my knee. Miragee asked me if I was OK. I was really embarrassed for falling and said I was. I was sore but was able to make it down to the bottom. We called Barb to come pick us up because there was no way I could walk 4 more miles back to her house. I thought it did, but the story didn't end there.

Two weeks later I was fine and playing volleyball at a work picnic. I ran for a ball and planted my right foot to stop and my right knee snapped. It sounded like a tree branch breaking. It actually bent completely outwards the wrong way. I found out later that my ACL was completely gone. There was nothing left of it. So I needed a new one. I really didn't think that I did anything out of the ordinary to snap it. However, later on it dawned on me that I must have partially torn it on Gold Mountain. The rest of the story is that I was out of commission for a long time. I lost contact with a lot of people while I was away. I haven't seen Miragee since.

Anyhow, I'm as good as new and I'm looking forward to seeing Big Bear again! I also remember wanting to hike up Sugarloaf Mountain sometime when I was there. I can't remember who but someone said it wasn't that hard a hike. Of course, if there's room in somebody's 4x4 that might be better for me. My wife would kill me if I messed up my other knee!

-_- I was almost ready to say that we would be glad to go hiking with you until I read the part about your wife killing ya...and now we're scared to drag you anywhere! :) Our FJ will be "John-proofed" ( new suspension, lifted a little, skid plates, body repairs) by then but we will be in Vermont on Aug 20th. So anxious to go on a ride with the JEEP folks...but there will be lots of other trips.

Cache In Trash Out Event: Iron Mountain CITO 2010 (Round 2!)

This is just a reminder and a note for all those that have not see it yet. This Saturday the top of Iron Mountain is the place to be. ThePolarBear and I will be up there handing out donuts for those much needed carbs to carry down several hundred pound of magazines and books that have been dumped up there. Hope to see you there! Check out the link below for the cache page.

Reid and I will be at the Big Bear event and staying at the Motel 6 as well. We'll be going up on Friday, home Sunday night. Anyone planning any off road caching runs for Saturday that our Jeep Commander could keep up with?

We can't make the event, sadly, but a couple of w/e ago we did the Skyline Drive on the south side of the lake and found really beautiful and scenic and an easy drive for new jeepers like us. Even saw a couple of 2wd cars along the way.

This is Skyline cache one cache along the route.

OK Everyone the Event page is up GC2EFZW 8th Annual Geo Ocotillo Campout 36_2_25thumbsup.gif

Looking forward to it!

 Head's Up.....the event page will be updated but everyone start thinking about whether or not they want a San Diego Geocacher's tshirt as we'll be selling them at the campout and I will be needing some pre-order numbers to get the order in. We're using the simple SD Geoachers Logo..small on the front and larger on the back. Probably light ash as only light colors look good with the logo. I'm expecting the tshirts to be under $15 and sweatshirts or hoodies we also be available for approx $20-23.

I'll need qtys and sizes and will let ya know the cut off. Still working on the quote and the artwork....

If anyone has the mid-week days off and is interested, I was going to hike the Noble Canyon trail tomorow Tuesday the 16th with a start time of 5-6AM. Was going to start at Noble Canyon #15 and then maybe somewhere between Noble Canyon #4 and Noble Canyon #3 make a detour over to Another Pine Tree to explore that creek bed/trail and see if these two trails can be connected up. If anyone knows if this creek bed/trail is on private land or anything, let me know and then the plan will be just to do the full Noble Canyon Trail into Pine Valley with the drop car left in Pine valley area.

It will be a slow leisurly pace and is about 10-12 miles in length, but almost all downhill. I would like to have a second "drop" car left at Persieds Point, but even if you want to go and don't have a car, I can have one of my family pick us up and drop us off back at the top.

I am sure it will be cold at the top in the morning and warm by the time we make it to the end.

If that trail/creek bed is the way we go and it is useable by geocachers I will drop a couple caches along it to connect the two trails up.

I am sure it will be cold at the top in the morning and warm by the time we make it to the end.

If that trail/creek bed is the way we go and it is useable by geocachers I will drop a couple caches along it to connect the two trails up.

So, how was the hike? Were you able to connect the two trails? What was your final total hiking distance? Looks like a really cool trail...wish we could have gone!

Great hike, not as hard as it looks, no Piglit was almost running on empty when we hit the connector trail. 11.1 miles total. Pictures and further info posted on my FB.

Hey there folks

I plan to go out caching tomorrow along the Otay Mountain Truck trail. I know it is the middle of the week and all but that is my day off. If anyone else wants to meet up I am starting with "Keep On Rollin" (GCZPVC) and will try to see how far along the roads I can get before boredom and fatigue drive me back to my hotel.

If anyone wants to track me down I will be the silly bugger listening to his iPhones wearing sandals and a GeoWoodstock shirt. I plan to drop some swag along the way.

Back from a great day of caching. I did meet a fellow geocacher while out today and it was one that hadn't read this in the forum. A caching BP agent who was nice enough to help me with a cache I had been unable to find.

I love the caches I have found in this area so far.

Thanks for being a great community

Keep it up

This thread is to arrange group outings to tackle particular caches.

Good day, all San Diego cachers!

I am a geocacher from the Czech Republic (even though I do geocaching on many places around the world, too) - and I found an interesting "twin project" combining a cache in Prague and a cache in Bilbao Park in San Diego. I am looking for a collaborator from San Diego to participate in this project: you find and log a cache in San Diego, I find and log a cache in Prague. I already have the final coordinates of a cache in San Diego - and I will happily give them to anybody who wants to find for me the clues (pointing to the twin cache in Prague) described in the project here: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=185f1b99-e8f3-4913-9d1e-0aefcd08d1a5

I am not sure how many people will be reading this post - just in case that more geocachers reply to me, I must warn you that the rule of this project allows me to exchange the final coordinates for the clues with only one geocacher. I do not want to disappoint anybody - so if you are willing to look for the clues, let me know and I will confirm to the first such geocacher that I will be waiting for his time (without starting to negotiate with anybody else).

Thanks a lot for all replies, and I hope that I am not abusing this thread (but the topic seemed to me to be an appropriate one),

I can still make it on Friday. I will be coming from the Spring Valley (La Presa) area.
